Should never be OC here.  A good deal of Hobbie's "resignation", if that was truly encouraged, is his fault.  As others have said, there have been people here trying to play QB over the past 3 years.

Some QB coaches could have turned a walk-on into a 60% passer in that time.  Smith had 3-4 guys to work with.  Oddly, none of them got appreciably above 50% completions, a pathetic statistic if I ever saw one.

I didn't like Hobbie's system, and questioned his playcalling sometimes.  But more often than not, he had a play on that would have picked up yardage if the team had executed.  There were times we had WR's open deep thanks to his playcalling, only to see it whiffed.

If we have a good QB in the near future, it's because Smith got fired, or a guy coming has such a grasp on QB play already that all he really needs to do is learn the system.  For next season's sake, let's hope its the 2nd one for now.

We need an OC who has experience at the level we are playing now.

Franks should replace hobbie.  He was a head coach of a minor I-A, BCS program... and an assistant OC for a major I-A, BCS program that won a National Championship.

He has the experience to move up from running backs to OC.

Let's start the petition: PROMOTE FRANKS NOW!

[Omni: that's what happens when trying to post stuff while at work!! LOL! ]

Jim - I think you meant to say FRANKS.

Let's start the petition: PROMOTE BANKS NOW!

I was hoping we were done with the BANKS experience :-)

I'm gonna chalk that 60% up to exaggeration.  55%-58% is the most realistic expectations for a schollie QB.  60% is borderline all conference in most cases.

Back to Hobbie, he's a victim of the lack of QB recruiting ('03 & '04), an OL that under performed ('03) and WRs w/mediocre hands at best ('04).  IMO, his schemes were adequate but could of used a little more setup in play calling.

I agree with SBien that he did adapt his offense last season to get Andre Hall the ball more.  The biggest problem is PJ's arm was so inconsistent defenses just loaded the LOS box and dared USF to throw.  They couldn't connect to keep the opposing D off balance.  That's all the team need last season...an average passer.

I like Carl as the OC.....He might change the offense around a little bit which would allow the freshmen qb's to come in on an even playing field and then we would truly have a qb competition
