Courtney Williams on Naismith Player of the Year Midseason Watch List

 

TAMPA, FEB. 11, 2016 – The University of South Florida’s senior standout Courtney Williams (Folkston, Ga.) has been named to the Naismith Trophy Women’s College Player of the Year Midseason 30.

 

Williams recently became the second member of USF’s 2,000-point club and will first to reach 2,000 points, 900 rebounds and 300 assists. Williams is currently ranked 11th in Division I and currently leads No. 20 USF with 21.7 points per game. Williams has scored 20-plus points in eight of her past 10 outings, including 31 points at Tulane Jan. 13.

 

The list, which was announced Wednesday, was compiled by the Atlanta Tipoff Club's Board of Selectors, which based its criteria on player performances this season. The field will be cut to 10 semifinalists on March 3.

 

The four finalists will be announced on March 18, and the Naismith Trophy Women's College Player of the Year will be announced during the NCAA Women's Final Four on April 4. The winner will be determined by a board of selectors in conjunction with fan voting.

 

Williams and the Bulls return to action Friday at Cincinnati, before a Top-25 match-up at Louisville as a part of Big Monday. Monday’s game will air on ESPN2, tip-off is slated for 9 p.m. ET.

She'll have a hard time bringing home the trophy, but it's great she's in the running. Certainly deserving of the attention!
