  1. I know it's not a popular take but I think Kelly did the extensions to get the budget under control *for* the stadium. If you want to get funds ready for a stadium, keeping a low cost low performer is one way. The alternative with a 2 win coach is to prepare for his firing and the big cost to hire yet another coach to do another rebuild. Paying two coaches at the same time would absolutely take from the budget they need to get the stadium off the ground....at least that's my rationale.
  2. FCS team is not an "opportunity". It is now a requirement to show a nearly perfect game plan and execution; fail to do that and you're not winning enough ppl back to the stadium for conference play. I saw a lot in that first game worth judging. Yes it is only one game, and to be fair in USFs history (even in the good ole days) we had stinkers....but there was a lot of hype and expectations for improvement coming in. When you say you're "all in" and just do 'run run (short) pass' you have duped the fans. As for BYU not impressive....they had pretty much the best 1st quarter possible, and completely shut down our team until the end of the 2nd quarter. And in the 2nd quarter, they contained us to one offensive score. Count me as very impressed. Not intended to belittle, the team needs as many ppl positive as possible right now; but given that it's the internet I was expecting ppl to go to town on that comment after the on field results. I legitimately cannot feel positive and wish I could. Only seeing a completely different gameplan with different on the field results will make me feel better. If that happens over the next few games then great. But based on what I've seen so far I don't have confidence on it happening.
  3. Lotta ppl came back here when they heard a rumor about a certain former coach returning a few years ago....his name eludes me though because he's never really talked about.
  4. Bless your heart... people are gonna roast you alive. I *wish* I could say I saw something. I stayed til our last offensive series and after the turnover on downs I literally didn't want to watch anything more. Game was almost over, and I hate leaving early...but what I saw being called was just awful and I couldn't stand watching it. Felt like every series we did a delayed handoff ->run up middle, run again, then pass to sideline (or some combination of that). No tempo, only a couple of deep shots....the most 'vanilla of vanilla'. It felt like they developed the game plan for a rookie and were sticking to it no matter what tonight. Then afterwards I hear from the coaches comments "the run was shut down and its hard to throw when that happens".... Well what about passing to setup the run with a QB on national watch lists who won a Big12 conference and supposedly had 80-90% completion in camp. Do you wanna maybe make a gameplan that's pass heavy to take advantage of that? Or just keep doing dinks and dunks when it's clear from like the second series of the game the defense is literally waiting on those sideline throws to jump on?
  5. Nothing can be said to make anyone feel better after tonight because we were supposed to see some improvement. It looked like exactly where we left off. And to me that's a step backward when you bring in a quality QB while still having Weaver, Battie, and others ... The coaching just seems to be an insurmountable problem. He has to say that. He's seeking donations for the NIL
  6. "Gotta put this game behind us. It's only one game and we can't let it beat us twice. Still have rest of season ahead. Plenty of time to adjust rest of this season"
  7. Eff the play calling. You get a turnover and take no deep shots to get momentum back??!
  8. If they don't try throwing the ball deep this next possession, fire everyone.
  9. He can laugh on the sidelines of ucf all he wants. He had the chance to be on the grit list and win over teammates
  10. Who needs money, rankings, and meaningful opponents? We can hope for a playoff game at the end of the year (that may or may not be awarded in the future) and our G5 recruits vs P5ish recruits.
  11. Honestly I think we're more likely to lose someone who puts up huge numbers for us. The P5 now have the ability to offer immediate playing time and bigger NIL deals. Conversely, if someone only has "just good" numbers there's less incentive for a P5 to poach em. Sure the 'disgruntled player entering the portal' risk is still there, but there's also risk for that player of not finding a landing spot (and having even less chance at the draft).
  12. USF 39-38 Battie Ajou 422 Regulation ends tied 31-31. BYU scores td and extra pt, USF scores TD and goes for 2 and the knockout.
  13. I'll say....bubble screen to Weaver or Ajou for 8ish yards
  14. Lol yeah he's a good hype man. I too am more concerned after reading that...but I still feel like if our squad from last year could hang around and nearly pull off an upset, that this year we should have a better chance with Bohanon. BYU can be optimistic about returning a 10 win squad, USF can be optimistic about having more (on paper) improvements since last time.
  15. Special thanks goes out to the "conference realignment" thread for doing the heavy lifting
  16. 1) Club tickets are how you get people with the extra cash to spend more 2) I have been utterly spoiled by *actually clean* bathrooms, better food options and an air conditioned respite in the club level. Don't you dare try to say that's not necessary lol
  17. Not the first time someone couldn't cut it at USF and had to go down to an easier school.... won't be the last.
  18. Lol I doubt ucf is so scared of us they they would offer a scholarship or preferred spot to a 2 win QB (that threw all of 5 touchdowns), just to have an edge in one game this year. Our playbook with Timmy was "run around and make something happen with your legs". UCF can have that for free. I'm more interested in what the coaches draw up for the QB they graded out at 90% decision making and 80% accuracy.
  19. (I know this is a hypothetical you were making but I'm still addressing it regardless) The writing was on the wall for Timmy once a Big12 winning QB, who led a turnaround from a 2 win season, transferred in....but I think it's completely fair to still call it a competition if the coaches wanted to see the two in camp before officially making the decision. GB was injured last year and that's part of why he lost the job. Maybe the coaches wanted to see a bunch of practices to not only make sure he was healthy but that his mindset/personality was still a good fit for the team. A short QB competition was really the only answer. A longer competition would have really been unfair to both QBs and declaring GB as the starter without even working him out with players would have been more of an insult to McClain.
  20. I don't know if my comment got missed but literally none of my points were about money and instead involved real football success that was not achieved until Taggs came along...
  21. Yeah I'm not saying Leavitt would be in Saban's position as the renown GOAT of college coaches, had he accepted Bama, I'm just saying employers don't care about you/show loyalty... so there's 0 reason to expect an employee to give something they aren't given in return. *Especially* in college football where coaches are fired like it's going out of style. (That LSU coach got fired what, 2 years at most after winning a natty?)
