    I don’t have any inside knowledge. But I assume roughly the same, with a bigger title and more pay obviously—assuming that’s what it took to get him to come. Virtually every major CFB program has people like these now, and I think they are underrated in terms of importance.

    Some of the other hires make me nervous but this one doesn’t seem Scott-like at all. Great resume for this guy.

    Only thing that matters is wins, and yes we were historically bad in that department. In my view there was no bright spots from last year--neither special teams nor offense saved the day. No more moral victories!

But things have changed over the past couple decades and the game is different there. And most importantly football isn't the Navy Seals, because this is a game-not life or death.

    Thanks for the info. I find Deion fascinating. I thought for sure he would flop (can't coach his speed), and still not sure that his success will translate to a higher level. But definitely interesting to imagine where we would be if things fell differently.

    I agree with some of your conclusions, but the important part is that I agree with them in hindsight. The problem is we don't have hindsight when making new hires.

    The problem is we have had high-profile failures for every type of hire: Up and coming small school guy? Skip. Guy who had a ton of success at our level and washed out at major program? Charlie. Coordinator for major hot program? Jeff. And 90% of the fanbase was ready to fire Taggart too, so you could add him to this list... he just caught lightning in a bottle with Flowers, Mack, and Johnson. There is no one mold for a coach, and anyone who says "no [X type] coach" is ignoring the magnificent scope and diversity of USF's hiring failures.

    Weaver had a bad game this week. The screen interception was on him, right? I recall seeing blame put on a missed WR block.
