  1. Starting to seem really unlikely that we get any more big names from the portal given that its mid-July. What say all--can our D-line thrive with current talent?
  2. Yet another reason why the NILs are the least of the problems with the way CFB is heading...
  3. Seems like he has his head on straight on that interview. People dumping on this guy seem to forget that he had more wins last year than our entire team has had in several put together…
  4. Competition is good. Bringing in talent is good. I have no idea if this guy will be successful but beating out other schools for a well recruited QB is a glimmer of hope.
  5. Nobody is saying that. But whether you look at level of competition or compare raw stats between him and Timmy, you would be crazy not to be interested given our lack of proven depth at the position.
  6. One easy solution, then: NFL should rescind their unfair 3-year rule and let adults play pro football or take other gainful employment. Learn more in my 872-volume treatise, “How Boomers Ruined America.”
  7. Your red state talking points are bleeding over, Brad. College football as we knew it in the USF heyday has been dead, it just took putting money in kids’ pockets for y’all to see that. That’s far from the only area that where we are backsliding as a society at the cost of profits for a very few.
  8. The money hasn't been spent wisely, for sure. But I would think you, of all people, would appreciate just how much money we've shelled out in sports leadership positions over the past decade. We've lined quite a few pockets.
  9. I disagree. Easy path to starter job, ability to pad stats against inferior defenses (vs. SEC), still enough press. Starting QB at Mizzou will be an extremely difficult job next year given the competition. Job here will be challenging for other reasons, but hard to paper over the difference in level of defensive skill. It's often easier for the second-tier of QB prospects to come from schools in divisions where defense is not priority 1 (i.e. SEC), where they have the ability to pad stats and make a bigger impact. Draft results bear that out, and if that's his goal...
  10. I think your mistake is that you view this as a binary choice. I believe both things are true: first, this NIL stuff will absolutely accelerate the demise of CFB as we knew it. But that was already coming--see P5 vs G5 split, coach salaries, grad transfers, etc. The days of CFB as we knew it in the late 90s and early 00s was already gone before NILs started. Second, these kids do "make millions for the university." Very, very rich people have been profiting off their backs for decades, while at the same time precluding their entry into the real job market through action that-if it were not football-would be unlawful for multiple reasons. In sum, CFB was going "big business" regardless--and given that, these kids may as well get paid.
  11. Khator left 07-08 ish. She was a long time USF-er, 17 years and worked her way all the way up to provost. Maybe she wouldn’t be interested, but I’d at least reach out. Her ties to USF run very deep.
  12. A president who is focused primarily on athletics is not good for the university as a whole. We would be lucky to have someone who can make half the progress Judy made. I'm sure she has been considered, but we should look into hiring Renu Khator--formerly at USF and now leading UH.
  13. Gatorbull this thread is awesome and really helpful given the lack of interest, press, or reliable info around the program these days. Please do keep updating!
  14. That game at UCF Citrus Bowl was the worst I’ve seen it, and mainly because they ran out of water almost immediately. I had like 3 people in my group with heat exhaustion, nearly worse. I was at the UF game and remember how hot it was, but I was lucky to have alumni seats in the shade. UF games are much more fun when you live in Gainesville. And the Bulls looked like they might pull it out through the first half…
  15. That does not sound like what’s being talked about here (which I hope is just a baseless rumor). There is nothing beneficial to commuting more years to a coach who has bombed on the field. I can’t believe people could possibly point to the lack of a salary increase as a benefit. If you want to talk about renegotiating, come talk to me when he wants to take a pay cut for next year to prove himself.
  16. The “sure” part is where you lose me. If they extend the coach with the WORST RECORD IN USF HISTORY, two years into a five year deal, at any cost, it shows that they are completely incompetent at ever level. And I’m not even a Scott hater—I saw signs of life at the end of the season and have a glimpse of jaded optimism for next year. But facts are facts. I’ve stayed out of a lot of the discourse around the team and program lately because I’m beaten down like many others. But if they have truly learned so little from USF’s short history that nobody is around to grab somebody and shake them and say “what the **** are you doing?!?!”, then all the calls for a complete housecleaning are 100% justified.
  17. I can't believe this is a serious discussion. If they were to extend Scott now (I cannot possibly fathom anyone suggesting this and not being laughed out of the room), I will officially give up.
  18. I want a good football team as much as anyone here. But Judy was transformative for USF--we went from a middling commuter school to a legit research university under her watch and drive. Our degrees became far more valuable during that time. Also, she was a die-hard Bull with a motor that was impressive--she was always at big events and small events alike, and always eager to talk to students, alumni, professors, etc. If we find someone who can make half the progress Judy made during her time here we will be incredibly lucky.
