Spectrum cable opened up all of its hotspots. I'm in Channelside if anybody needs help in this area. You can download the Zello app for free and turn your phone into a walkie talkie.

If you're not able to get ahold of 911 go to Twitter... Tampa will be watching social media due to the use it had during Harvey. 

David.gold is my user name on zello so if you need search and rescue I can put the word out if your in Hernando or Pasco county.

Heard about Zello from a friend. You either need data or wifi for it to work. The phone doesn't magically turn into a walkie talkie.

Thank you; I wasn't quite sure how technology worked; it's just so confusing.

Cell towers go down or are jammed up, yet wireless based data can still work. This app gives you a way to communicate outside of cellular.

Hence the reason I said Spectrum opened up all of its hotspots

Verizon Wireless uses WiFi to make our calls if connected so I didn't download the app.  Plus our kids are here with us so really not an issue.

WhatsApp works kind of the same way. If you don't have cellular service but do have WiFi, you can still talk to people through their cell numbers, as long as both have the app installed. Used it when part of family was in Europe and worked great.
