The Bulls (38-11, 12-7 The American) got on the board first in the fourth inning, as sophomore Coco Montes (Miami) doubled, advanced to third on a sac fly, then scored on a wild pitch. It looked to be enough, as the pitcher’s duel continued until the Huskies (26-20, 10-8 The American) led off the seventh with a triple off the bat of Isaac Feldstein. Willy Yahn drove him home to tie the game. USF loaded the bags in the top of the ninth with one out, but UConn induced an inning-ending 4-6-3 double play. The Huskies loaded the bags in 10th with nobody out, leading to a Zac Susi single to left center to give his team the win. Key Stats Senior Phoenix Sanders (Gainesville, Fla.) had one of his best outings of the year, going 6.2 innings allowing just one earned run with nine strikeouts. Junior Duke Stunkel. Jr. (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) went 2-for-5. Montes went 2-for-3 with the lone run. He also walked. Notables UConn starter Tim Cate went 7.0 innings allowing six hits and striking out 14. Montes and Stunkel Jr. each hit doubles, their 12th and 13th of the season, respectively. Up Next USF and UConn play game two of the series beginning at 3:00 p.m.
