Had a very interesting discussion just this evening at a local networking event with two well-placed folks in charitable orgs you would recognise. One in development (sales, fundraising) and one in operations.

 

Their organizations started with noble purposes, but somewhere along the line, the mission became a tool to exectue the fundraising instead of fundraising being the tool to execute the mission.

 

Don't get me wrong, they still do great things. And more money lets them do even more great things.

 

But one wonders whether the donors understand what percentage of their money goes to enrichment of the execs and what percent to ops. And would they continue at the same level if they did?

 

It's possibly the ONE non-profit issue that could change the system of non-taxation. We shall see.
