Egbunu, Perry Named to All-Rookie Team

Freshmen bigs honored by the conference

MEMPHIS, Tenn., MARCH 11, 2014 – USF freshmen John Egbunu and Chris Perry were named to the American Athletic Conference All-Rookie Team on Tuesday.

Egbunu (Nigeria) led all conference freshmen with 6.2 rebounds per game and ranked fourth with 7.4 points per game. The 6-10 center leads the team with 52 blocks and has recorded two double-doubles this season. He enjoyed a career-best game against Memphis on Dec. 31 with 20 points and 14 rebounds.

Perry (Bartow) ranks second among conference freshmen in both categories with 8.8 points and 5.3 rebounds. The 6-8 forward recorded two double-doubles this season and had a career-best 18 points at Bradley on Dec. 28, one of 17 games with at least 10 points. Perry was named rookie of the week five times throughout the season.

Joining the duo on the all-rookie team was Amida Brimah (UConn), Terry Rozier (Louisville) and Austin Nichols (Memphis), who was a unanimous selection.
