Very nice weekend for the ladies.  Seems the pitching is settling in nicely and scoring a lot more runs than last year.  Go Bulls!

Softball Update:

2 games played today:

First game: USF wins in another short game, 8 - 0, in 5 innings (Nevins with the complete game 1-hit shutout)

Second game: USF won, 7 - 0 in a complete game

That makes it 9 straight wins for the softball team.

Not sure about how good their teams are, but I know our softball coach was a bit, let's say, miffed at the results of the day.  My wife and I were supposed to meet with him after the 2nd game and he just left the field out the left field gate never to be seen again.

Northwestern is in the same boat as us nationally this year. That game was going to go either way but I was giving us the slight edge. To see us lose to them in that fashion was very disappointing. Kansas is a mediocre team. Nothing special coming out of their team. We should have been able to take care of them rather quickly. I was expecting a score of 4-0 or 3-1 for this game. Ken is running a top-tier program and we have the talent to compete with practically any team in the country (except for a few power houses). I am sure he was miffed because he almost got run-ruled at home twice on the same day.

Looking at the schedule the only team that should give us any difficulty before conference play is Baylor. They are more than likely going to be a top ten team when we play them so hopefully we get our act together because that game should help us out in the rankings should we win.
I expect us to be on a 11-0 or 10-1 streak heading into conference play this year.

Well softball bounced back last weekend and won both games:

vs Utah, 7-4.  Then shut down St. Joseph's, 5-0

They're sitting now with an 18-7 record.

They have two mid-week doubleheaders:

Tomorrow (Tues 3/11):

Central Michigan @ 5:00

Yale @ 7:15

Wed 3/12:

Providence @ 5:00

Penn @ 7:15

Softball had its ups and down late this week.

On Friday, they fell to #12 ranked Baylor 0-3.

They then bounced back against UMass 3-0, as Nevins pitched a complete game shutout.

Earlier today USF (using mostly bench/non-starters) played against the Dutch National team in an exhibition match.  They trailed 2-1 until the bottom of the 7th inning, where Allie Patierno delivered  walk off single to win the game for the Bulls, 3-2.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

    Terry Lucas, 09/26/22
