OK... I'm sold.

I like it, a guy that will bleed green and gold. A guy that has a passion for USF football. A guy who knows offense as well as anyone in the country (the way I believe that CJL was on defense).

If he truly can recruit, build a solid staff, and make some noise fund raising, I'm all in.

What possible reason could DW have for not having him on the short list? Not being sarcastic, really, what are his weaknesses. Law, you know him, I know you are a bit biased, but, if he were hired tomorrow, what would be your concerns, what part of the transition to HC do you think he may struggle with?

I am a little biased but I just want the best for our program. I want the days back where I thought that rayjay was the only thing happening in the world at that moment. remembering the noise in the stadium was unbelievable and it couldn't get any better than that moment. I dont see any weakness with Calvin other than the fact that he doesn't have head coaching exp. but he could have got a sunbelt or cusa job long time ago but passed to wait for this job.... his dream job. He will bring an intensity that has not been seen on those practice field for a long time. But Muschamp had zero head coaching exp too but it worked out for those guys. just saying. I'm not that biased I thing my next guy I would want is Willie T

Little background on part of reason Magee was not a HC for a few years, in 2007 he was with RichRod in Michigan meetings then wanted to interview for HC job at WVU. If he was not on that plane he would have been given an interview but he was not given one then calmed racial allegations as why. Would he have gotten the job probably not but he would have been interviewed. He called a helluva a game in the BCS game against Oklahoma though then went to Michigan.

At Michigan Rich floundered which set Calvin back, then the got to Pitt with Graham (former WVU coach), then Zona again with Rich. So Magee host his luster in 2007-8 and now is getting it back. I like Calvin and he would be a good hire and would probably bring back former coaches Frey, and some former WVU guys to mess together. I think his key would hire a good S&C good out of Barwis's group.

The issue with Calvin is if Butch Jones leaves Cincy, that will be a hard one to pass up if USF draws out the process, as I would assume Whit Babcock (Cincy Ad) has him as a option already.

I doubt he'd take Cincy over us, the guy is Tampa through and through.

He would take USF first but if USF dibble dabbles around he would jump on Cincy Head Coach job.

I am a former player that still lives in the community and I have never posted on the site but have always checked it out. I wanted to let everyone know that the former players are behind Coach Magee. Coach Magee was a great mentor for us as players and taught us to win in every aspect of our lives. If you bring back Magee you bring back someone that knows and understands the tradition/past of our program. You bring back a guy that knows the community because of his time with time with the Bucs and USF. He will be loved in the community and he will love the community back. He will get the people back in the stands at RayJay. He will have great relationships with the HS coaches in the state and will put a net over the state of florida in recruiting. He can talk to a HS recruit and turn around and talk to a CEO with the same passion and energy. Coach has been on some great staffs and been in some important games. He has been offered jobs and has turned them down always citing that USF is his dream job. This is his dream job not a stepping stone like it will be for other candidates. This is what we need right now for the program. I know many of you will say this is not a name that will make a splash but he is because at the end of the day he is a winner and WINNING is what makes a splash. I have talked to many of the guys over the last 24 hours and we all agree Calvin Magee is the gel that holds this program together. Yea I'm passionate about Coach Magee but I'm even more passionate about the success of the USF football program and thats why we feel he is the best choice. PLEASE HELP US MAKE USF FOOTBALL A NAME TO BE RECKONED WITH AGAIN IN THE COLLEGE FOOTBALL LANDSCAPE.

That's a pretty convincing argument. I can't help but feel like that's an endorsement I would listen to. Throwing those names out there like you did on the thread - with the collective experience there, it's hard to argue against. Magee wouldn't be the "splash" name that might bring the immediate "homerun hire" label - but he could very well be one of the only true "homerun hires" we have out there. Loyalty, connection with our former players, intimate knowledge of the program and the state, and enough time outside the system at some winning programs to have seen some things he could bring back to implement here... you might just have sold me on him law87. Can we count on you guys to make your voices heard to Doug? There are those of us on here who could be of significant help, though I wouldn't imagine you'd need it.

One of the characteristics of Skip I disliked the most is - he seemed to essentially ignore our traditions and our past. He wouldn't participate in getting riled up for those teams we historically beef with the most. I want to see a coach with a chip on his shoulder against Miami. I want to see a guy who acknowledges how classless Rutgers has been to us on numerous occasions, and would happily step on a Jersey throat or two on the scoreboard. Skip treated every game like the same game. Magee sounds like he would know better than that. He was here to witness what we all loved about Jim Leavitt, but would know those aspects of Leavitt that were drawbacks too, hopefully avoiding the mistakes CJL made. Let's make sure Doug considers Magee heavily, at a minimum.

We would do whatever we need to reach out to doug. But just like on the field we need the fans help to win. I believe that he is truely the only one that can really gel everything back together. I do believe that Taggert would be the next guy that could mend this. With your comments I know you understand where we are coming from. I know that he would bring back Frey and he would bring other great coaches he met along the way. He could jump on the road and sure up our recruiting class with ease, what a great recruiter for this state HS coaches will love him!!!!
