Since the buyout would be close to 2.5 million and the salary for a new coach would be around 2 million a year, I say we go next year without a head coach. in fact, don't go with any coaches. Just have a bunch of GA's and maybe a volunteer coach or two. They couldn't do any worse! We are paying Holtz and staff over 3 million a year to do what?? Our guys are good enough and smart enough to play without coaching, especially the this kind of coaching. They are basically playing now with lousy coaching, so what's the difference??

No coaches = no recruiting, which would be devastating.

Its not that difficult to afford firing Holtz. The way the contract buyout is setup (paying the gauranteed $500K by year), then it would simply mean paying the new coach $1.5 million/year or less to offset the costs. This could cost us a candidate or two (who we likely had little chance at anyways), but that money is still more than enough (if any of these people chose to come here) to get the Willie Taggerts, Calvin Magees, Rich Bisaccias or even Mark Stoops of the world.

Have USF set up tables at all the Gates of Ray Jay for the remaining games, People can make donations (only to be used to buy out Holtz). Im pretty sure that we can raise a nice chunk of change in the next 3 home games.

We need to let the administration know that if they make the move, a large group of us will up our donation levels. Can someone start a petition of some sorts?

You'll need to set up an escrow account with that petition and when the account hits the 8 figure mark, you can present the petition to them.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
