No one connects on 50% of deep passes (passes over 30 yards in the air). That's crazy talk.

But BJ Daniels throws a beautiful deep ball. that's what he does. Looks like the coaches finally figured that out.

When you're down by two scores late in the game your options are kind of limited. Who game plans to be so far behind that you need to do that?

Looks like he finally has the weapons to throw that beautiful deep ball to .... Coaches hands have been pretty tied in that regard the last couple of years.

BJ cannot throw the deep ball consistently... so we can take that off the table... he might hit a couple... but he'll miss enough to make the coaching staff go away from it.

Now for them putting the ball on the ground... that totally plays into the Defense's strengths.

Depends on how much separation our WR's can get. They all run 4.3. If they get behind the secondary and create some space, BJ can hit 50%. That's all that Holtz wants. So long as we don't get intercepted.

I agree with you, that our hard hitting, swarming defense should be able to create fumbles. Hopefully, they will do a better job in recovering them, then what they did last year.

if bj could hit 50% of deep balls

we would throw alot more

smazza... i never thought it would happen.. but.. (I can't believe I'm typing this)...

I Agree

right it couldn't possibly have anything to do with the play calling.

He averages 20% less yards per attempt under holtz than he did under leavitt.

3 receivers averaged over 17.7 yards per catch under leavitt in BJs first year including griffin at 18.9.Griffin under Holtz last year averaged 12.3.

1 receiver has averaged over 14 yards per catch under holtz and that was bogan in 2010 at 14.6.

leavitt actually had a couple more over 16 ypc but they had less than 10 catches so i didn't include them

To be fair, when Holtz got here there weren't any receivers left. Did you expect BJ to complete 50 yard bombs to Joel Miller?

Griffin and Bogan both played under holtz. they were the #3 and #4 receivers in Leavitt's last year. AJ love was #2 that year. coming off a major knee injury. not exactly a burner yet he averaged almost 19 yards per catch. Joel miller? how about we compare AJ Love to deonte welch or andre davis?

like I said his yards per attempt were 18% better that year than it was this past year when he had Griffin, Welch, Davis, Marc, Landi.

Leavitt's top 4 receivers averaged 13.9 yards per catch or better. 3 of them were better than 17.7 ypc.

Holtz had one guy average 14 ypc. everybody else was 12 or under.

Leavitt had 4 different receivers catch a ball over 50 yards. Holtz had 0 last year.

Griffin missed the entire year in 2010 with the ankle. He missed about half of last season with injury. Bogan missed about half of 2010 with injury.

There was nothing resembling a BCS caliber receiver available to the Bulls in 2010, other than a few games with Bogan, and he rushed back so he wasn't 100%. Last year was better, but we were playing guys like a true freshman Andre Davis. There were still no experienced and quality receivers with Griffin out for good chunks of the season.

The receiving group this year is light years ahead of the previous two years.

Always made me laugh when people said he couldn't throw the deep ball. If Daniels has the WRs that are comfortable and reliable running deep routes he'll get it there. He did with C. Mitchell and Bogan. Davis has stepped up into that role. Mitchell and Dunk look like they're occasionally going to be there, but look inconsistent. Both had drops on deep balls yesterday. Mitchell also stepped out of bounds on a beautiful deep ball from BJ

FWIW, their fans really nailed what USF had to do to win. They said throw the deep ball effectively and try to strip the ball. Got it done!

According to Skip, we had 5 pass plays over 50 last year .... where's your info coming from?
