A franchise management company based in Heathrow, Ultimate recently acquired 30 percent interest in Gator's Dockside International Franchise. The concept has 12 locations and two more under construction in Central Florida. Under the agreement, Christopher M. Swartz, will serve as acting president of Gator's Dockside International Franchise. And Gator's Dockside founders Tony Cipparone and brother Paul Cipparone will serve as chief operating officer and chief financial officer of the franchise respectively. Based in Heathrow, Ultimate manages 275 franchised restaurants in 20 states, including Jreck Subs Inc., Central Park Hamburgers, Kokopelli's Pizza, Li' Dino's Deli and Grille and Sobik's Subs. Tony Cipparone says, "Their strong family of brands and successful group of existing franchisees will be an excellent catalyst for the growth of the Gator's Dockside concept." Ultimate bought interest in Gator's Dockside as part of its own plans to grow through acquiring robust regional franchise systems that complement Ultimate's existing portfolio, Swartz says. "We believe that our management team will be able to launch a very successful National Franchise Campaign," he says. Cipparone brothers and partner John Foerst opened their first Gator's Dockside in west Jacksonville 11 years ago, a local corner restaurant that catered to residents within a five-mile radius. As one location grew into the current chain of full-service family dining restaurants, it retained its neighborhood appeal, catering primarily to locals. The challenge will be to retain that local appeal as they roll out the concept nationally. Swartz says, "We believe that our management team will be able to launch a very successful national franchise campaign." © 2001 American City Business Journals Inc.
