Wonder if he will pay back JL for keeping McCarney relevant back in 2007?

Regardless, I am curious to see this situation unfold.  Especially since Mike Canales is about to hit the unemployment line for the second time in a year.

Of course, McCarney is a defense guy, but it might be a nice spot for JL as DC. They did well together, briefly, though I have no idea how well they got along.

Now with Florida and Miami job open I bet he is kicking himself now.

Would have been a pretty big jump from DL coach to HC at either of those programs ..

Looks like he kept Chico on as the offensive coordinator.

That actually would be a nice landing spot for CJL, linebackers coach or D-Coordinator. Off the radar for a little while in the Sun Belt. If things improved could possible turn it into a decent head coaching gig. Maybe could look into starting the program at UNCC but I think CJL needs a few seasons of coaching without any incidents before anyone gives him a fair shake.

McCarney said he has hired Canales as his associate head coach, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Canales was offensive coordinator at South Florida for three seasons before coming to North Texas this year.

From Iowa State to North Texas.  That is a steep drop off the head coach coaching ladder
