(January 6, 2004) Tampa, Fla. - For the second time in as many weeks, the University of South Florida has agreed to a home-and-home football series with an ACC member program. USF and North Carolina will meet September 23, 2006 in Chapel Hill and September 22, 2007 in Raymond James Stadium.

Just two weeks ago, USF and Miami agreed to a home-and-home series set to begin October 1, 2005 in the Orange Bowl. The Hurricanes will then play in Raymond James Stadium on a date to be settled after an NCAA vote on 12-game seasons.

“The fact that schools like North Carolina and Miami are now agreeing to play USF on a home-and-home basis is testimony to how far Coach Leavitt and his staff have brought the program,†says Doug Woolard, USF Director of Athletics. “Our fans can look forward to seeing the best programs in the nation playing our Bulls right here in Tampa on a regular basis.â€Â

North Carolina completed a 6-6 season after a loss to Boston College in the Continental Tire Bowl in 2004, but three of the Tar Heel wins came against Miami, Georgia Tech and North Carolina State.

USF joins the Big East Conference in 2005, allowing the Bulls rotating home games with Cincinnati, Connecticut, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Syracuse and West Virginia

I think he already was a pretty good AD while at St. Louis, but now he is proving it to the Bulls faithful.

Great News, maybe USF will be able to rid itself of having to schedule D-1AA teams that kill attendance and lower the S.O.S element.

Here's the UNC announcement:

Tar Heels and Bulls will meet in 2006 and 2007.

Jan. 6, 2005

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.-- The University of North Carolina has agreed to a home-and-home football series with the University of South Florida in 2006 and 2007. The Tar Heels will play host to USF on September 23, 2006, and will play at USF on September 22, 2007.

"South Florida has developed into a very competitive football program in just a short amount of time," said North Carolina Athletic Director **** Baddour. "We look forward to playing in Tampa in another NFL stadium in 2007."

Carolina's 2006 non-conference slate now includes home games against Rutgers (September 2) and USF (September 23) and a road game at Notre Dame on November 4.

"Head coach Jim Leavitt has built a quality football program at South Florida and I look forward to competing against a strong Big East opponent," said UNC head coach John Bunting. "These games will be a great test for our team and we will have the opportunity to play in a professional stadium in a state that is important to us in recruiting."

South Florida was 4-7 overall last season and 3-5 in Conference USA. Since establishing a football program in 1997, USF has had just two losing seasons and sports an all-time record of 55-33. USF is one of three schools that will join the Big East in football next season, along with Louisville and Cincinnati.

In 2007, Carolina will face Colorado at Kenan Stadium on September 15 and USF at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa on September 22. The Tar Heels are still seeking one additional non-conference opponent for the 2007 season.

Dougie also has the clout that we are now a BCS team.  Teams are more likely to go for the 1-1 when scheduling BCS teams comnpared to the 2-1 or 1 game only when scheduling non BCS teams.

NC also gets another valuable appearance in recruit rich FLA.
