The Big East at the top is very impressive. Beyond the top four or five teams, it's just a normal conference. The bottom of the conference is pretty bad, an inevitable result of having 16 teams. That's why USF going .500 wasn't as impressive as a few people thought - more than half of USF's conference wins came against teams that finished with overall records of .500 or less, and while half the conference made it to the NCAA tournament, only two of USF's nine conference wins came against those NCAA tournament teams (at home over PITT and over Georgetown in D.C.).

It's a very good conference, but top-heavy.

It's not looking good to start the NCAA, either. Notre Dame lost to ODU (not really an upset, despite the seeding) and Villanova is trailing by 8 late in the game to Robert Morris.

The Big East IS overrated this year.  I've watched pretty much every televised BE game the last 4 or 5 weeks.  There are very few good shooters in the league.  Providence is the only team that can score but they can't stop anyone.  Villanova was really lucky to get by today.

But if you've watched just the final scores, too many games are in the 40's and 50's.  And it isn't all because of great defense.  I posted a week or so ago that I believed only 1 team would make it to the Elite 8. 

Part of my reasoning is that USF won 9 games and USF wasn't good at all.
