This is why i dont want to play DePaul in Big East tourney. Lets hope we can get that #8 spot and get a bye in first round. A win vs DePaul or Providence does nothing in helping this team get a better shot at NCAA.

Beating DePaul in first round as a #9 does nothing to help our RPI, in fact it would lower our SOS, the team would still have to beat the #8 seed and then play Cuse with little rest.

At #8 get to rest, play the #9 seed and with a win play Cuse with more rest and better SOS.

i hear what you are saying, and it is valid... but the overriding factors are these:

if we do get #9, we will have depaul and notre dame.

Win both, and you now have 21 wins (assuming we beat uconn) 

and we have a win over ND who was our nemesis this year. 

Those two things are very tough to overlook by the committee.

1 win over a bottom team and a loss to cuse would give us 20 wins and a that win wouldn't be much better than depaul... and we'd still be 0-2 against ND.

at #8 we would skip Depaul and probably play ND a win vs ND and a loss to Cuse would actually leave us with one less win but a higher SOS that beating Depaul would bring.

20 or 21 wins with that extra win being Depaul would not put us in.

21 wins looks better than 20.  I'd be giddy with either... but every win makes it that tougher to deny.
