Providence vs. South Florida Game Preview

GAME NOTES: The Providence Friars entertain the South Florida Bulls tonight in a Big East affair at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.

The Friars head into the bout seeking a rebound following a 93-63 beating at the hands of Marquette on Sunday. The loss snapped a two-game win streak and dropped the squad to 11-7 overall and a level 3-3 within the conference. Providence though, has been solid at home, boasting a 7-3 ledger at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.

As for the Bulls, they were unable to build off their first league win of the campaign, falling 78-70 at Cincinnati on Wednesday. It was the fifth conference loss in six games for USF, which dipped to 11-7 overall.

In terms of the all-time series, Providence has won five of the six all-time meetings with USF, including the last five.

USF was unable to cool Cincinnati down on Wednesday, as the Bearcats shot an efficient 55.6 percent from the floor on their way to a 78-70 decision. The Bulls made just 43.5 percent of their attempts from the field and a dismal 3- of-18 from long distance. Dominique Jones continued his run with 21 points and six boards, while Chris Howard notched a double-double with 16 points and 10 boards. That now makes it five games in row in which Jones has scored 20 or more points and he continue to pace USF in scoring (19.6 ppg) as well as assists (4.1 apg) for the season. Jarrid Famous, who had 14 points and seven boards on Wednesday, is the main threat down low with 11.2 ppg and a team-high 7.8 rpg to his credit.

The Friars turned in a dreadful performance at both ends on Sunday, shooting only 38.5 percent from the floor and allowing Marquette to hit on 61.4 percent of its attempts in a lopsided loss. Providence was also outdone from beyond the arc, where it went just 7-of-23 compared to a 13-of-21 showing by the Golden Eagles. Vincent Council tallied 24 points and four assists to lead the Friars, while Jamine Peterson posted nine points. Peterson has been the team's most effective player this season, averaging a double-double with 17.2 ppg and 10.1 rpg. Marshon Brooks, a 40.3 percent three-point shooter, tacks on 14.7 ppg, while Sharaud Curry adds 14.3 ppg and a team-high 4.0 apg to the lineup.

Providence is simply the better team and it should be able to take advantage of the Bulls for the win tonight.

I'm putting this up early because I will be at a funeral today and don't know when I will get back. I was unable to do one last game, so this is to make sure. GO BULLS!!!

Btw this is a game we can win and it would be huge if we do.

THX, Vega. I agree being on the road and having the better team should favor Providence. BUT USF has a shot because the Friars are awful in defense. So if the Bulls play defense they will get high % looks at the basket. If USF needs more than 70 points to win this game then theyll lose.

Nothing on Channelsurfing or ATDHE as of yet. There should be streams up around gametime considering it is on an ESPN network.

There is a USF fan on justintv live but he's airing TTech/OU. Nevermind that's being aired on like 7 streams.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
