Costa Posted August 14, 2009 Group: Member Topic Count: 0 Content Count: 1,524 Reputation: 9 Days Won: 1 Joined: 02/20/2008 Share Posted August 14, 2009 More info:There was an excellent question posted by one of the commenters, and so I double-checked: Yes, Notre Dame will also be included in the deal with the Sun Bowl. So the El Paso game will be able to select the Irish once every four years instead of a Big East team. The Champs Sports Bowl has the same agreement, and that game would be sure to snatch up Notre Dame the first time the Irish become available. The Sun Bowl would only get Notre Dame if the Irish were eligible and the Champs Sports Bowl has already used up its one-time-in-four-years option.• I'm also told that the payout from the Champs Sports Bowl is likely larger than what the Big East had been receiving as a payout from the Gator Bowl. Many of the bowl payouts seem to be increasing across the board in these negotiations. • One drawback to the Champs Sports Bowl is the aging Citrus Bowl, where the game will be played. Planned renovations to the stadium have stalled because of the state of the economy. It won't be nearly as comfortable as Jacksonville Municipal Stadium at the Gator Bowl or even Bank of America Stadium for the Meineke Car Care Bowl. Then again, if you're sitting in pleasant December weather in Orlando and it's a good game, would you really care that much?http://myespn.go.com/blogs/bigeast What if they decide to move this game to UCF's "great" new stadium. We all know how Knight fans are dying to have a bowl game in their crap facility. Yay...

Let's compareOld deal Proposed deal1) BCS BCS2) Gator/Sun (ND 2 of 4) Champs (ND 1 of 4)3) Meineke Sun (ND 1 of 4)4) International Meineke5) PJ.com PJ.com (probably)6) St Pete St PeteSo where this deal is really better than old deal is that 1) the BE #2 slot is not sharing a bowl with B12, and is not giving away ND twice in 4 years. 2) the number 3 slot is better, the Sun > Meineke, and 3) The number 4 slot is a HUGE upgrade from International to the Meineke. ... and only one game against a non bcs confrence

I don't care if the bowl game pays us $500. Playing any bowl-eligible BCS team is better for reputation than playing the #4 team from C-USA or the MAC. Guest
Here is how the Orlando Sentinel reported the Champs Bowl:Notre Dame could be in the mix for the Champs Sports BowlAndrea Adelson Sentinel Staff Writer6:42 p.m. EDT, August 14, 2009A shuffling of bowl lineups could bring Notre Dame to Orlando.Florida Citrus Sports and the Big East are in discussions that would bring the No. 2 team from that conference to the Champs Sports Bowl, with a provision that Notre Dame could instead be taken two times in the span of four years. That would mean a potential double dose of Notre Dame, which has plans for neutral site games at the Citrus Bowl in 2011 and 2014.ESPN first reported the status of the Champs Sports Bowl negotiations. The bowl game would lose its affiliation with the Big Ten, which had sent its No. 4 or No. 5 teams here. The Big Ten is in negotiations with the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville. The Champs Sports Bowl's other affiliation is with the ACC.Steve Hogan, CEO of Florida Citrus Sports, remained mum on the possibilities when asked about them Friday."I think that it's still right in the final innings, if you will, of the relationships on in our game matchups and something will probably shake out in the next four or five days, a week, I think for everybody," Hogan said. "I think still the result of who we would partner with the Big Ten, the Big East or anyone else for that matter is still a little bit in doubt."Privately, FCS officials believe if it ends up affiliated with the Big East and Notre Dame it would be a win. Though the Big East is down no team is ranked in the preseason Top 25 this year and the Big Ten traditionally travels much better, having Notre Dame in the mix enhances to the attractiveness of the game.Contracts between conferences and the Champs Sports Bowl and the Capital One Bowl expire following this season. The Big Ten and SEC currently send their top non-BCS schools to the Capital One Bowl, and Hogan has said in the past he will do everything he can to preserve that matchup.
