I think it's a shame that USF doesn't have a sport management program, especially now with our athletic dept's heightened exposure being in the Big East. Just about every school in the state has one. I did my undergrad at USF in business mgmt, but opted to go to FSU b/c of this...meaning I'd probably still be at USF if there was a sport mgmt program.

I would join this major in a heartbeat. University of Tampa just across town has it. Very tempting to transfer just for that major.

you would be better served getting an internship with the athletic department than majoring in it as an undergrad

Experience only gets you so far.  Interning + a degree would trump interning alone.  Which makes FSU and other programs a more viable option.

With Tampa hosting the Bucs, Bulls, Lightning, and Rays it is a shame we don't get some sort of program.  The University could cut deals with the teams to get internships for all four.  (USF of course being an easy start)

Does a Univ. of Tampa degree even hold that much value outside of the Tampa Bay area?

Yeah it really does. It is a very good private school. A highly regarded buisness program there. I almost went there over USF

Well that's actually why I came to USF...to work with the football program as an undergraduate assistant. It's just a shame USF doesn't have a graduate program in sport mgmt or I would've likely stayed. I figured for my undergrad that business mgmt would be a good overall degree to have.

for most aspects of "sport management" having a MBA, JD, or other higher level degree is better than a degree in sports management.  most sport management programs are a joke and the best thing you get out of them is practical experience.... which you can get without having to take classes.  1 year of experience is more valuable than spending one year taking classes for a masters in most cases

USF should get a law school that has some sports concentration or offer it in conjunction with the MBA program.  Very, very few sport management programs that are not tied into other programs are worthwhile.

USF should get a law school

I wish USF would have had a law school when did my J.D., I wound up freezing my tail off in Michigan for three years, since I got a nice chunk of change to study in the great white north.

I had a buddy that went from USF undergrad to Michigan State for his Law degree.

“This is not a broken football program by any means. It just needs to be united, to get everybody on the same page, share that same vision, and really to have that standard - best is the standard.”

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
