My keys to the game

We must avoid a slow start, since UCF will be playing with alot of emotion this is there superbowl.

If we get up early in the first half game over, UCF can not get in a shootout with us, they will have to keep

it a low scoring game to have a chance.

Second run the ball well. If we can do that the passing game should open up some.

On paper we win easy but its college football and crazy things happen see Stanford and USC.

Keys for USF:

1 - Pressure Greco.  Sure, he's a JUCO transfer who did nothing against USF last year, because Selvie and Co. had him on his but when he was in the game.  Keep the pressure on Greco, and the Knight offense will never get going.

2 - Ball Control Passes.  UCF has a pretty decent defense, especially at DB.  Grothe will need to minimize his errant throws, and hopefully OC Gregory calls plays that help -- think West Coast Offense style slants, WR screens, and passes to RBs or TEs in the flats.  Downfield passes could be an issue if Grothe isn't on target.

3 - Pound the rock.  Okay, that is the Buc's slogan - but if USF can develop the power running game today, pounding the ball down the throat of the defense, it will help with time of posession... and will tire out the Knights' defense.

Keys for UCF:  (just for the heck of it)

1 - Pressure Grothe.  Yes, we know Grothe can do some magic when he has to improvise, but 2007 showed that he can make mistakes as well.  The key is to force more mistakes than times you get burned.

2 - Stop Selvie.  The best way is to double team him with a DT and a TE.  Sliding the LG over to help opens things up for the rest of the DL, meaning you could need to worry about Jarret Buie as well.

3 - Win the turnover and field position battles.  Obviously the team that turns the ball over less has a better chance of winning.  The same can be said for teams who start their drives in better position.  Make USF go 80+ yards every time.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.

“This is not a broken football program by any means. It just needs to be united, to get everybody on the same page, share that same vision, and really to have that standard - best is the standard.”
