I'd rather have him than Pena though.  Too bad.

Tex would be a huge upgrade at 1st.  Much more consistent (over .300 with RISP career) and better hitter and actually has a slightly better fielding % than Pena and Tex is a switch hitter.  If the Rays really wanted to create some buzz for the long term they should get Tex and ink him to a long term deal.  He really would be the missing piece in the line up.

Imagine a top of the line up with Aki, BJ, CC, Tex, Longo.  Run production would definitely improve.

they would be better off putting that money into a long-term solution at RF.  pena is a decent option at 1B he just isnt a middle of the lineup guy on a playoff contender.  i would be more than happy with him at 1B and hitting 7th

Rays should sign Barry Bonds.  Wouldn't have to give up any prospects (which they clearly don't want to do).  All they need to do is show him some money.

One of the best hitters in the history of the league.  It's insaine to not want him.

I agree 100%.  They dont even need to show him the $.  He wants league minimum plus I heard he was willing to pro-rate it or something along those lines.

The only pronblem is he could be a distraction.  BUt if the Rays do not add a bat they are in big trouble.  The front office should not let a season like this go to waste.

They cant afford to not make a move.

Yeah, I've heard Texiera too.  That seems to good to be true.

texiera would not be good.  for one...he would only be a 2 month rental and secondly, the braves would want way too much for a player that we would only use as a DH.

Not sure how this works, but could there be a trade for prospects with a negotiating window, where if the deal isn't extended, then the trade would be void?  You could pick up Tex and sign him to a long term deal, if you are willing to spend some big bucks.  He is a player that is worth the high price tag.  I bet Atlanta would be fine with that if they could get ahold of some of Tampa's prospects.

If you want to win now... that wouldn't be a bad move.  Costly, but if you could make it more than a 2 month rental, it would be worth it.

Would be the worst sign ever.  Besides the fact that he's a cheater, he is a left-handed bat and the Rays have struggled against left handed pitching.  They need someone that can hit right handed.

again, showing your stupidity...

bonds has shown he can hit anybody... and hit them hard, right handed pitcher or left handed pitcher, so who cares which side of the plate he hits from
