Free expression has limits: slander, libel, and defamation of character being among those limits.

It's the verbal equivalent of saying "your right to swing your fist stops at my nose."

Also, everyone has the right to sue... whether or not a court throws out the suit is another matter.

Also, in this case, it's the way it was presented that really caused all the hubub .....

Conradt allegedly lifted a template off the Oklahoman's website, wrote and pasted a bogus story about the arrest and posted it on a message board.

Yes, TB that is true.

Because one of the standards for slander/libel/defamation is whether a reasonable person would believe it to be true... another standard is whether or not the person posting knows it to be false... and another is how widespread the misinformation is...

* Copying the Oklahoman website makes it appear is if the Oklahoman actually reported it -- and of course, most people tend to believe what they read in the "newspaper" ... even if that report is online.

* By copying and editing the Oklahoman, it seems the poster knew the information is false

* Using the forum to draw attention to his fake "news story", made it spread.

Seems like there might be a case here.

Thankfully, USF fans are smarter than that!!

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
