It seems unfair to pick on the Panthers (12-1) right now, but they could be in trouble with starters Levance Fields and Mike Cook lost to injury. They open their Big East season at Villanova on Sunday, then travel to Tampa for a Tuesday game with USF. The Bulls (10-4, 1-0) have won 10 of 11 games after starting the season 0-3. They crushed Rutgers 68-45 in their Big East opener and seem to be responding well to new coach Stan Heath. Freshmen to watch: USF G Dominique Jones. The former three-star prospect out of nearby Lake Wales, Fla., has hit the ground running for the Bulls. He's the team leader in scoring (16.2 points per game), 3-pointers (23) and steals (2.0), and is second in rebounding (5.3) and assists (3.3). He had 24 points in the Big East opener against Rutgers.
