It just happens that the BCS champ is usually the AP #1Because there are other orginzations that crown a "National Champion" for their league.  Again do the AP and "concensus national champs" get the trophy and the rings no they dont they are paper champions in a system that NEEDS a playoff.  If you dont have the BCS trophy you are not the national champion end of story.  Also if that were the norm there wouldnt be as many instances of "split NC's" again if you dont have the bcs title all you have is a beef with the system not a title. I quit except people always say USC was the co-champion with lsu...oh well. i always argued they would NOT be the first team to win 3 in a row, but luckily they lost to texas anyway when texas beat the "best team ever". people don't always know what they are talking about. give boise a chance with the playoffs! Guest Toolio(Guest)
The possibility of a split "legitimate" MNC is because the AP has never been locked into awarding the winner of the BCS Championship Game the winner. The Coaches poll automatically puts the winner #1 in the poll... and the coaches just decide #2-#25.But the AP doesn't. But right now, the odds of a split are pretty much nonexistant with Michigan losing.Who would be #1 in the AP if UF won?#3 Michigan? - lost #4 LSU? - With a win over ND, they would still have 2 losses, including head to head with UF.#5 Louisville? - We'd have to see who impressive they were. Playing a team not even in the top 15 won't help them.#6 Wisconsin? - Nope. Not even in a BCS bowl. Weakest schedule of the field. Certainly not impressive vs. Arkansas.#7 Oklahoma - lost#8 USC - Impressive win over Michigan, but 2 losses#9 Boise St - OT win over #7 wouldn't be impressive enough to jump to #2.
