Leavitt talked recruiting on his radio show 12/14

I only heard the 2nd half of the show, but a couple things I heard were very, VERY exciting:

- In the past, USF has 2 or 3 commits by Christmas. This year, USF may have 2 or 3 scholarships left! He said that they even had to call a couple recruits this past week and tell them sorry, that they no longer had a scholarship available for them. AAAAND one recruit "from the big 10, who had a visit scheduled in mid-january" made a trip to campus this week just to remind Leavitt that he's still interested. Basically saying, hey dont forget about me!

- Also mentioned Robert Marve without mentioning Robert Marve. He said that a lot of people have been speculating on who hes been visiting lately or whos house(s) hes been to lately, and that "we're trying very hard" for those player(s), and that "we'll just have to wait and see how it plays out", and reiterated that they're putting their best foot forward.

Whooo, I saw this thread and was nervous. I know CJL wouldn't be that dumb, but sometimes coaches do make mistakes.

(for those not familar a coach cannot mention the name of any recruit until signing day)

Leavitt stretches things, but sure 3 or so schollies is not too far from the truth.

BOTTOM LINE: This early and Leavitt is excited, makes me excited. It also means that we have over a month to "hold onto these guys" ... the other part of recruiting.

Really feel this program "has turned the corner" ... we'll know for sure 15, September 2007.

A lot of the prospects that have been offered scholarships have not committed yet... hence there is a discrepancy between offers and commits.

Some of the offers might commit elsewhere, freeing up scholarships for others in January.

Also, not all commits are "found".  Since USF can't mention commits, it is up to reporters to "scoop" them.

Just to add to to Bien's answer.

If the question were presented "Are you recruiting that QB with the great arm in Robert Marve" then coach couldn't answer.

He can only confirm that he's recruiting an athlete any mention of his ability is a severe no no.
