Okay I just read Jim's OCS thread.  His finance analysis speaks volumes to me.  See it below.  I did a loan analysis of $100MM over thirty yrs at 6%.  Thats $7.3MM plus annually to service the debt.  Just freaking WOW!  RJS IS a community stadium.  If USF offers to double its rent and hires some lobbyists to put some kind of pressure on the Glazier situation politically, why not have a large bull scupture in the south endzone and maybe a Bull and Pirate ship sculptures at the south entrance to the stadium which USF pays for thier's and the Bucs pays for thiers.  The upper Bucanneer walls at RJS could easily be covered up w/USF paraphenalia during Bulls games especially if USF doubles its rent to have those amenitities.  It seems to me that $1.5MM is better than $7.3MM annually.  Our team is really getting off cheap at $125K per game/less than a $1,000,000 per yr.  This way seems so much cheaper.  Just a thought.  Its also okay to hate me for starting a "ON" CS thread too.  But in my defense, it is an off week  :).

4. Finances

A decent stadium will cost around $150 million.  Unlike RayJay, USF can not expect any taxpayer dollars to help.  So the funds need to come from either private donations or the sale of bonds or a combination of the two.

With some simplified math, at a 6% interest rate, the bonds would cost around $900,000 per month or just under $11 million per year.  (In contrast, rent at Raymond James is $720,000 only per year).

If we assume that ticket sales and annual donations fund the operation of the program (coaches salaries, travel costs, etc), then the debt service needs to come from new sources.  Naming rights can bring in $2 to $3 million per year.  Additional advertising sales, luxury box rent, parking fees, and concessions can bring in several million more per year.

It would appear that, without dedicating a portion of ticket sales or annual donations to debt service, affording an OCS becomes difficult.  For every $10 million in private donations - or cost reductions through design changes - the funds needed each year is reduced by around $700,000.  USF might need to raise at least half of the construction money before the first shovel of dirt is moved.

Sounds really great in theory, Doug...............until you remember that the Glazers are........well...........the Glazers.

You have an easier time playing pick-up-sticks with your but cheeks, to quote the great Dell Griffith (Planes, Trains, & Automobiles).

Dude, the Glazers spit in the face of English soccer hooligans. There's no lobbyist that could come close to that .... Great ideas but ain't gonna happen. We'll just enjoy RayJay the way it is until the timing is right for our OnCS ....

How about putting something on a ballot? If the tax increase to subsidize the stadium was part of the ballot, why can't we do one to give USF some control over the stadium as well? I do not think the Glazers would move this team to LA if they are forced to  work with us.

Glazers have a legal, binding lease that allows them to control the stadium in the manner in which they do.

Yep.......the people of Tampa spoke loud and clear several years ago......

"Please, oh please, Royal Family Glazer......if you don't move our NFL team away, we'll give you whatever you want!!"

And so it is.

One of those big inflatable bulls would look good in the south endzone.  And maybe "take over" the pirate ship with a big bull sail (Bullship).  How could the Glazers object to this?

the Pirate ship in Ray Jay during Super Bowl XXXV. How great would that be as a Bulls sail?

Is it 125K?  I thought they increased the price.  Or is that price it was increased to?

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
