What's been surprisingly positive?

1) The fan support: I LOVE what the younger Bulls are doing! KUDOS!

2) Matt Grothe: gnat slayer. Enough said.

3) Ean Randolph: I still can't Bullieve he's a walk-on...

4) The receivers: 100% improved from last year.

What's been not so good?

1) The defense has been inconsistent.

2) Run blocking and running the ball.

3) Team leadership

What would you like the team to improve?

1) Please find us a running game...

If we continue to play like we have, not very good. But BULLieve we will get it turned around. We have the talent.

What's been surprisingly positive?

1. Matt Grothe.  He has some amazing skills that make me think of what Steve Young must have been like at B.Y.U.

2. Ean Randolph.  Hard to know what a transfer can do - but he has some shake and bake skills that can make for some big plays.

3. Playcalling.  Give OC Rod Smith some credit for some of the calls - especially opening up down the field passes.  Not to mention that, for the most part, the plays have been situationally correct.

What's been not so good?

1. Running game.  Obviously this is suffering from the losses of Ponton and Plancher.  However, the lack of any real depth is a concern that needs to be addressed through better recruiting.  USF has it's QB of the future (both Grothe then Voss), but the Bulls need an RB of the future.

2. Defensive line.  Putting pressure on the quarterback is essential for a defense like USF's.  It helps generate turnovers and improves the run defense.  Maybe the return of Josh Julmiste will help - and other players need to get healthy.

What would you like the team to improve?

1. Running game (see above).

2. Defensive line (see above).

3. Penalties.  USF did a good job during the UCF game, but returned to an 8 flags for 82 yard game against Kansas - including penalties that either killed USF drives or extended Kansas drives.

I think USF can get to a bowl game (need 3-4 wins).  Look for wins against Cincy, North Carolina, Syracuse and one out of Rutgers, U Conn, and Pittsburgh.  Then book your hotel for Birmingham.

What's been surprisingly positive?

Our QB play and the Punt return play

I would also put the WR play in there too

What's been not so good?

Our D missing tackles and the lack of a runninig game

What would you like the team to improve?

The running game (Ponton back should help)

The D I think will work itself out

How do you think we will finish? Is there a bowl in our future?

11-1 ;)  8-4 and yes a bowl

Totally unsolicited comments from an opponent.  (only 1 game observed)  Please understand none of this should be considered a slam on USF.  I was impressed with your team speed.  Faster than we typically see in B12, save Texas.

Grothe...stud, say no more.

Running attack....no opinion, I have not seen it

#51 absolute stud....will play Sundays

Dline....problems there.  Need to scheme ways to get to QB.

Dbacks....I think it unfair to comment.  No one should be expected to cover as long as our QB was getting.  I will say our receivers were open a lot, but then Barmann had all day.  I will reserve judgment.

Special teams.....good.  Your punting style was unconventional but placed us consistently in poor field position.

Guys, I like your team and think you will be bowl bound.  You gotta find a way to pressure the QB, and a running game to take the pressure off Grothe before he is killed back there.

You guys are young like us.  With experience USF will be a helluva team.

I did think your coach messed up by not going all out to get to Barmann.  Adam is almost a stationary target and will pee down his leg if pressured enough.  Perhaps he planned for Kerry Meier, but when an immobile QB with little experience started, I thought you guys should have gone after him.  I have an advantage because I have seen Adam for four years...

Go Bulls....Beat Rutgers.

1) Grothe

2) Special teams, RB's, DL

3) RB's with more yards to take pressue off of MG, more blitzing on D

4) 8-4  Texas Bowl

Surprisingly good:

Grothe (not really a huge surprise considering the talk but definitely a relief)

Randolph (were did this kid come from?)

WRs

HOT (sorry couldn't resist that one)

Not so good:

Line play on both sides of the ball

pass defense (do we even have one?)

Play calling (one good half against ucf, the rest has stunk IMO)

Running backs (when your working with the 3rd string and below it isn't that surprising)

Kicking

Team is still undisciplined (If we use that special formation called illegal again I'm going to go ballistic)

What we need to improve:

The items listed under not so good

How we will finish, will we have a bowl?:

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
