wow-- let's cut Grothe some slack.

the game was what it was supposed to be -- a tune up. We learned we need help with long snapping on punts, punting (somewhat an issue related to the former issue), some better blocking out of these very young guys (though they did well considering Dile and Thed got banged up). If we run away with a huge point lead early on, we wouldn't have learned anything. This was a very good game for us to play imo. We need to continue to tune up.

By the way-- that Busbee kid looked great.

Jim's right... Grothe didn't look off a single receiver all night.  He telegraphed everything.  Velcro's right too... freshman mistakes.  But he picked a receiver and hawked him until he released.  He's gotta learn to check off his options.

He will.

This was a good game for him.  A good team that challenged him, but one that was also just a shade slower than our WRs.  FIU will be a small step up in challenge, as will UCF the following week.

Grothe telegraphed every throw.  McNeese didn't capitalize on it.  Other teams will.

The man needs to learn how to A) look off defenders... and B) look around a little.

Any defensive coach worth his salt will be able to watch this game and make MG look like Ronnie Banks.

But also did something VERY important, he threw the ball where only the receiver could catch it.

And, did you notice that his throws were thrown with a purpose, not a prayer?

im sorry, but most of the people saying he didnt look off a receiver where at the game and while i WISH i was at the game i was watching on tv...and grothe did look off guys when he needed to.  there were times when he made some bad throws into double coverage, etc...but he did make some d-1 throws too....looking off and throwing a bullett to someone

I will conced that Grothe has a good arm and was on target with his passes.  That was not my complaint.  I will be watching the replay on Catch 47, but from watching at the game it sure looked like he was keying hard on his target receiver and not looking off defenders.

He didn't make PJ mistakes of throwing at the feet or over the head of the receivers... and his two long passes were solid.

He's not "the savior" yet... but I agree with Velcro that his mistakes can be corrected with a good QB coach.  Too bad we don't have one of those.

For the first time since Marquel left, though, I can't wait to see how our QB plays next week.

That alone was worth the price of admission.  The rest, Grothe will learn as he goes along.

I implore everyone here who is having Viagra-like symptoms over his play... don't turn on him when he has a bad game in a few weeks... and he will.

to be fair-- that one long bomb to Edwards was extremely accurate but not exactly a spiral (the guy next to me called it a duck).

When's the last time you saw a USF receiver get hit in stride, though?    :)

yea but that long throw to edwards grothe was also about to get hit in the chin.  i have seen too may passes from PJ in similar situations end up 15 yards short of the intended Wr and getting INT'd.

speaking of all of this...anyone watching mustain for arkansas right now.  i promise this grothe vs pj debate has NOTHING on the one that ark fans will have about mustain...but grothe wasnt national player of the year either...haha
