Do the coaches have the players stay at a hotel for home games the night before the game to guard against any distractions?  Almost every program does this, so I imagine the answer is yes.

Really? I've never heard of doing this. I don't see how staying in a hotel is any less distracting than staying at home/apartment/dorm. And I doubt USF does this - given that the team departs and returns from the Athletic Facility. Would you not - if you stayed in a hotel - depart from there?  8-)

It's very common, it keeps an eye on all the student athletes the night before the game. Makes sure they go to bed on time, etc.

Seems like a very unnecessary expense. I know USF leaves from the Athletic Facility and busses to - and returns from - RayJ. And the players park their cars at the facility as well, so I'm pretty sure this isn't something USF engages in.

Unnecessary?  I don't think so.  It might depend on your budget.  Parties on campus the night prior to a big game.  You never know what might happen to one of your star players.

I know for a fact the larger schools do this.  Notre Dame for example, busses their team out of South Bend the night before and stays about 30 miles from campus.  USF might not if they meet up at the athletic facility.

I agree that it would be a good thing ... may also help with us doing better on the road.

But, I am sure it just isn't in the budget ... YET!

And with our HOME games usually at night, would be good for team unity to go to a hotel, have a team dinner, watch a movie and then MONS !!! ... sorry.

Morning Call, late Breakfast and have your position meetings, team meal, etc.

DANG !!! Will be a while for our budget to handle it.

UCF has been doing it for years.   They stay at a hotel down the street from UCF and then bus over the following morning/afternoon, depending on the game time.

I am sure USF does it also.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
