It would be nice to know what figure the athletic department needs to hit to build a first class softball stadium.  Anybody know a number?

With a softball stadium you have to look at reality. Unlike revenue sports seating and accomodations are not a priority. I've never been to one softball game in my life, and I highly doubt many on those board have either.

SDSU just built one for a $1.2 Mil. It has 300 permanent seats, can hold 1500 with temporary seats installed. Roofed dugouts, batting cages and bullpens.

In reality it's all we really need.

Info on SDSU's stadium:

SDSU Stadium

Opening Day: Today, with the 15th annual Campbell/Cartier Classic.

Location: Adjacent to Tony Gwynn Stadium, across the street from Chapultepec Residence Hall on SDSU campus.

Capacity: Semipermanent bleachers, plus 300 permanent seats, will seat approximately 1,000-1,500 spectators. Additional bleachers could be brought in for major events, such as an NCAA Regional.

Dimensions: 200 feet down both lines, 225 to the power alleys and 235 to center.

Cost: Of the $6.5 million donated by John and Becky Moores for the combined softball/tennis facility, approximately $1.2 million was spent on the stadium itself.

Features: Roofed dugouts, covered batting cage and bullpen for each team carpeted with artificial turf, phone hookups to the bullpens, bathrooms in the dugouts.

Thank Bulliever, the school I work for built one (it's very very very primative) but we originally looked at SDSU's plans as a starting point.

Feel free to make a sizable donation if you'd like that.
