Bulls Defeat WVU to earn tourney spot

LeRoy And Cassidy Power USF Into The BIG EAST Tournament

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (May 20, 2006) – Home runs by Josh LeRoy and Jim Cassidy (both firsts of their careers) powered the University of South Florida baseball team (23-33, 12-15 BIG EAST) to a 9-4 win over West Virginia (35-20, 14-13 BIG EAST) and a berth in the 2006 BIG EAST Championship. LeRoy finished the afternoon going 2-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored. Cassidy hit 3-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored. The win gave USF the weekend-series victory over West Virginia two-games-to-one.

Sophomore Daniel Thomas picked up his third win of the season, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits while striking out six in six innings of action.  

USF will enter the 2006 BIG EAST Championship as the No. 8 seed and will face the regular season champion Notre Dame on Tuesday, May 23 at Bright House Networks Fields in Clearwater, Fla. Check www.BIGEAST.org for complete brackets and game times.

And finally some good news for Bulls fans.  Been long time between Bowl, women making NCAA & now baseball getting a second chance.  Softball was expected so...well whatever.
