Reports: Huggins accepts Kansas State jobESPN.com news services

Bob Huggins, the long-time Cincinnati coach who led the Bearcats to 14 straight NCAA Tournament appearances and a Final Four in 1992, has accepted the job of head basketball coach at Kansas State, according to published reports.

A news conference is expected later Thursday, the Kansas City Star reports.

Huggins' agent, Richard Katz, told The Associated Press early Thursday that Huggins had not yet signed a contract.

A source close to the situation told ESPN.com's Andy Katz something would be known by the end of the week.

Kansas State basketball sports information director Tom Gilbert told the AP that no news conference had yet been scheduled by the school.

Huggins, who was forced out at Cincinnati last August after 16 years as head coach, will replace Jim Wooldridge, who was 15-13 this past season at Kansas State. Woolridge was fired on March 9 following his sixth season in Manhattan.

Huggins, 52, accepted a $3 million buyout after a public squabble with new Cincinnati president Nancy Zimpher, who disagreed with the way he ran the Bearcats program.

Andy Kennedy, Huggins' top assistant and recruiting coordinator the past four years, took over the Bearcats as the interim coach. Cincinnati (21-12) is in the NIT quarterfinals, where it will play South Carolina on Thursday night.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

What a sad day... anyone want to take bets on which team makes the NCAA tourney first? KState is about to become a basketball juggernaut in the next three years. They'll be average next season... but in two years, we'll be wondering what the hell were we thinking as we are giving another mid major coach a shot to revitalize a lifeless program. DW missed the boat on this one...

“This is not a broken football program by any means. It just needs to be united, to get everybody on the same page, share that same vision, and really to have that standard - best is the standard.”

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
