(February 13, 2006) – University of South Florida right-handed pitcher Casey Hudspeth has been named “Louisville Slugger’s†National Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 12 as announced by Collegiate Baseball today. In his 2006 debut, Hudspeth struck out 10 batters while walking none in five innings of action to earn his first victory of the season. The 10 strikeouts were just one shy of his career high (11, vs. Eastern Michigan, 2/18/05). The Sarasota, Fla., native allowed just four hits over the five innings of action, holding Northwestern to a .182 batting average on the night. Sixty-seven of Hudspeth’s 102 total pitches on the night resulted in strikes. The performance helped guide USF to it’s fourth-straight season-opening victory. USF will host Jacksonville on Tuesday, Feb. 14 at Red McEwen Field. Game time is 3 p.m.
