Man, this has been a BAD week for USF Football  :-/

Bulls lose another original assistant:

"Finances played a part of it, but looking at the [Wisconsin] program, I have a chance to advance myself a little quicker."

At Wisconsin, Lane likely will double his salary. At USF, Lane made $62,000, less than half the BCS average ($130,720) for comparable assistants according to a national athletic directors survey obtained by The Tampa Tribune.

Paying the price of fame...

These guys built this program from nothing and had it in a bowl game in its 100th game.  Can't blame other programs for the interest.  Kravitz and Lane are huge losses.  We better have a plan to address this disparity in the assistants pool.  We took care of CJL, now need to get the rest of the staff taken care of...pronto.

when you suceed on a budget

top 20 defense 3 of 5 yrs

people will come after your staff and if the desparity in money is that big...you just will not be able to hold on to the good guy's

now the offensive coaches we get to keep them! bummer!

Their pay will increase with the new Leavitt deal .. the assistant pool was increased.

This is the price of fame ...

Salaries can also be helped through more boosters and larger donations. We just don´t have the fan base - YET !

Coaches leaving for more money falls directly on the lack of a large fan base!

This doesn't surprise me.  What we showed last year is that our defensive coaches have been able to build a very good defense with mid-major recruiting.  Because of that, they are in demand at other programs.  Since we know that our salary pool is lower than we need it to be for assistants, we're getting poached.

Coach Lane is gone too... ****... his son most likely graduates from high school this year... allowing for him to get up and go a little more easily. He is another quality character in my opinion. Hell... he put up with Jim for 10 years... that takes perserverance. These coaches that don't know anything but the Jim's methodology are going to be in awe of how much more free time and money they have coaching elsewhere. When does Coach Fry leave... he is the last remaining cog in our system. Don't go Big Sweat!

I promise that there will be no more free time. It´s life as a coach.

Jim works these guys longer hours than normal like he learned at KState. It's about being an efficient coach when you have a family. ET... if we had a conference championship, I would have nothing bad to say about the long hours they are working.
