Don't know if this is new news or not but Hernandez wasn't the only scholly pulled back.

USF recruiting has more options

Posted January 26, 2006 by Brett McMurphy

Looking for more evidence how far the University of South Florida has climbed among the ranks of the nation’s college football programs? Just look at USF’s decision to tell Naples OT Hector Hernandez that the Bulls were rescinding their scholarship offer.

Hernandez had a USF scholarship - as long as he didn’t visit Louisville this weekend. But Hernandez felt he needed to visit Louisville, where he said he has an offer. So USF decided to go in another direction. Call it a game of recruiting chicken. This happens all over the country. The point is USF’s recruiting base is now strong enough where it can “throw back the smaller fish.†That’s how far the program has come. Coming off its first bowl trip and in the Big East, USF can be more selective and apply more pressure to recruits, if needed - just like every other BCS team.

Hernandez isn’t the only one out of USF’s picture, two other players who were reported as earlier USF commitments also won’t sign - St. Petersburg LB Robert Spann and Orlando Edgewater DT Justin Jenkins.

Jenkins was the first verbal of the year... I hope this means we have some big fish coming for the last couple spots

Both Jenkins and Spann were grades.  No reasoning wasting time holding the scholarship if they aren't going to qualify.

Jenkins has been out of the plans for a looong time.  I actually never even put him back on the commit list after he decommitted.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
