Tampa Trib, Sports, 12/25 page 8, columns 5 & 6

On behalf of the intelligent USF alumnni, I apologize for the blame dealt to the tribune for lack of ticket sales to the Meineke Car Care Bowl . Any half brained fan can find out where tickets are being sold. Maybe the alums who graduated in the first 40 years don't feel an allegiance to the football program. That's not surprising since most have never shown their school pride.

He is right in that many older USF alumns dont really care for the football program that much. If they did, USF would have at least 60k fans at every home game because there are a lot of alumni living in the area. Anyway, this will all change in the future because today's students are going to be hooked for the long run IMO. Each year, I have noticed on how well the enthusiasm has grown from the students. It will come, it just takes some time.

My thinking is the same ... and these students will be coming here grown up as BULLS in many cases, instead of coming here and wearing rival gang colors.

Unfortunately for us, though...the USF alums are the ones with the money to support the program today.  We need that support.

win with consisitancy and in 5yrs this will not be an issue

Or...maybe not have USF sign a Corporate "exclusive" sponsorship with the St Pete Times...and instead...sign with the "Hometown" Newspaper where 75% plus of USF's targeted fan base lives as the Newspaper of record.

Just a thought.

I really don't think that the corporate sponsorship of the St. Pete Times has any bearing on engaging the alumni that don't pay attention to the program.  In fact, I see absolutely no possible correlation.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
