Glad he got his extension this year as he loses alot of his key players to graduation.

P.S. Sporting News Rumor Mill has UCONNs Ex-AD, who is now the A.D. @ Kansas and wants Kansas to fall on it's face in the Houston Bowl so that he can hire Randy Edsall for a 2nd time. Coach Mangino's contract expires after next year and the AD does not want to give him an extension.

FWIW...........

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) -- Rutgers coach Greg Schiano agreed to a seven-year contract extension on Thursday, just days before the Scarlet Knights play in their first bowl game in 27 years.

The deal will keep the 39-year-old Schiano at Rutgers through the 2012 season.

The former Miami assistant who is in his fifth year at Rutgers led the Scarlet Knights to a 7-4 record, their first winning record since 1992. Rutgers finished third in the Big East and will play in the Insight Bowl on Dec. 27.

"This contract reflects our appreciation for the outstanding work Greg Schiano has done with our football program," athletic director Robert Mulcahy said.

Schiano earned $191,000 in salary this year. Under the new deal, he will earn $250,000 in salary next year, increasing to $350,000 by 2012. The contract also increases his guaranteed income from private sources from $325,000 this year to $625,000 next year and $750,000 by 2012.

"I am humbled and appreciative of the support shown by the leadership of Rutgers University," Schiano said. "We will continue to build Rutgers into a championship-caliber football program that will serve as a source of great pride for our university and the state of New Jersey."
