help our play calling on 3rd and 2?  We had the BE's leading rusher this year, and how often did that help our play calling?

Guest S.  Bien

have you seen him play? what makes you think that?  just the stars thing? or bloodline?

Ponton is one of the most prolific HS runners in the bay area... i'm not sure how you can say anyone is automatically heads and tails above him.  Maybe he is... but I want to know why you think that...

Exactly.  Ponton doesn't have a lot of wiggle, but he's a great straight ahead runner with more speed then Javarris James, and bigger right now.  Javarris is a great athlete but some of his ranking comes from lineage.  I would love to have him but for no other reason than he's a great athlete but don't expect him to be another Andre Hall or be assured no competition.  Dexter McCluster is coming here, and I will say now that Dexter's got the potential to be our next great back.

I have seen James play a few times and he has similar qualities to Andre Hall.  He has good instincts and is great at finding holes.  He is also very tough to bring down.  With that being said, I don't really like what I've seen from Ponton.  Straight ahead runners are great if you are a FB, but he just doesn't find holes unless they are huge.  Our O-line isn't good enough to part the red sea on every play.  Ponton should be a LB with the body he has.  You also need moves to catch passes out of the backfield which he does not posses.

Could be a starter, not would be a starter ........ I hope he understands the difference if he comes here.

CJL has said the very same thing to other recruits in the past...so I think I believe this writer's version as well (nothing wrong with telling someone they "could" be the starter).

CJL has done this before...it sometimes helps win recruits over to your team.

Anything to help create an advantage...something CJL is very good at.

Stop the nonsense, K_L. Quit insinuating that CJL is doing something that NO other coaches do while recruiting .....

James is hinting that he could be backing out of a verbal commitment to attend Miami, known as the "U" to its fans

That would be awesome if he signed with USF.

Also, lived in SW Florida for 14 years, and NOT ONCE did I ever hear ANYONE refer to Miami as "U" .

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
