Well I look at the travel packages offered.  I could not afford nor did I want to pay the Omni price (team Hotel).  The alternative package (package #4) is the Courtyard Charlotte which is miles away from downtown. Most if not all the parties will take place around Tryon st between 2nd and 4th st.  The team hotel is on Trade st or one block from 4th and Tryon.  So I booked a room at the Hilton City Center about 2 blocks away from the team hotel.  Much cheaper than the Omni price and comparable to the Courtyard but it is downtown where the action is.  My time to call for tickets is from 12:30 to 2:30.  I'll be on the phone at 12:31.

See ya in Charlotte and Go Bulls

I was able to book the Courtyard for $113.41 taxes and all. I called to confirm the distance from downtown. The guy told me a 15 min. cab ride. Website says 10 miles away. Personally I'd rather try to stay somewhere with USF folks. Rooms can be canceled though so may check later to see if anything else opens up.

Rate at the hilton is $188 per night per room and as I mentioned it is downtown about two blocks from the team hotel and in the middle of the street parties.

The courtyard package is 169 per person and since my wife is going would be $328.  Cheaper than the Hilton but farther away.

You could always try priceline.  http://www.biddingfortravel.com can give you the hotels that come up and some prices - I would guess they would be higher for new year's eve weekend.  I wouldn't be surprised if you could get a 3 star airport area one for $50-$60.  Downtown would probably be more.
