Sitting_BULL Posted November 21, 2005 Group: Bull Backers Topic Count: 111 Content Count: 2,527 Reputation: 3 Days Won: 0 Joined: 02/12/2002 Share Posted November 21, 2005 I disagree about the financial incentive argument.  If you make bowl games a playoff (where the winners move on) EVERYONE (who's a fan) will watch to see who advances.  Thus, each bowl would be significant.As it is now, most only care about the bowl they're in plus the #1 vs #2 bowl.  The remaining bowls have no significance.Making them a playoff would bring more casual viewrs and thus more TV $$$$$$$. And they seem to rake in plenty of money off a playoff system.They also play playoff games in team's cities up to the Super Bowl ..... That wouldn't happen in a college playoff if you stick with the bowl games. TV would have to kick in for lost bowl revenue if you go that way ..... which still would probably be doable. Most of the pundits in college football seem to agree that a playoff won't happen anytime soon since the present system is too entrenched, and somebody would lose out with a playoff system.
