We haven’t been running track that long, running indoor an even shorter time.  Is this guy the first qualifier for indoor?

Back in the 1990s the cross country team was very good and had a relay team qualify. In the BE days we had a triple jumper who qualified as well as 5k runner. I believe that is it. We have actually had a few women sprinters in the past who qualified for their country’s Olympic team.

We **** canned the swim team for a women’s cross country team for title IX in 1987.  I don’t think I have ever seen an NCAA qualifier for USF except for the triple jumper who was awesome.  End of the day our track team is more infantile then our FB team, but on a better trajectory.

Better trajectory for sure. Compared to to those schools we discussed earlier, USF has miles and miles to go (pun intended) before they will be truly successful. I compare them to KU who I used to run for and there is no comparison. But you got to start somewhere and these are good first steps. Yeah, we also had a 5k runner (male) who was European that made the ncaa championship during the BE days. In terms of swimming, keep in mind that T&F is most likely the cheapest sport a university sponsors (ignoring bowling). I suspect that also played some role relative to replacing track with swimming.

“In my mind, I’m kind of like, ‘OK, excuses over'. We know what we need to do. We’ve got the right team together, and now we move forward, and we’ll evaluate and be accountable to each other, including myself, from this point forward.”

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
