As a proud alumnus of CMU, it's nice to see them doing well.  I was there when they beat Michigan State and George Perles two out of three years.  The coach they have now is in his second year after leading Grand Valley State to a couple Division II National Championships.  Their AD is retiring this year so they are about to start a new era in Chippewa Athletics, but this is long overdue.

Their biggest victory this year though was getting clearance to keep the Chippewa nickname by the NCAA.  As they say in Mt. Pleasant, Fire Up Chips.

Hey Eric....are they going to be losing their nickname?  It sucks to see another piece of tradition go by the wayside...what's the word?

My apologies to anyone who may be offended by the topic....I have never seen the issue as a controversy and always thought of it as a tribute to the tribe referenced but hey...who am I?

...he just answered that. They were given permission, actually were #2 on the list behind FSU to get approval.

Makes those of us who went to EMU and had Hurons ripped from us (especially considering how the Huron is a RIVER, too) feel crappy, but it's great for CMU.
