but UConn doesn't deserve to be in the Big East for football anymore than we do. You would have had the same growing pains last year in CUSA as we did... no offense... but your QB was OVERRATED (kinda of funny his name and overrated are so similar) last season... or there are some great D-coordinators out there that shut your boy down.

On the flip side... you won't beat us in Connecticut this season... sorta like you couldn't do it last time we played you in 35 mph winds on a very chilly autumn day.

Will you be right in the prediction contest... far from it. We have NEVER been shut out... EVER! Remember... this is a team filled with more rising stars than you see on a chilly night in Stoors. Now go back to Huskies for your nickel brews on Wednesday night... cuddle up in X-lot with some overweight coeds at 2 AM, and burn some couches to keep the state Po-Po busy with their armored gear and pepper spray.

Oh yeah, any school that rides around with a condenscending bumper sticker towards a great men's hoops team needs to have their head examined. Oh yeah... women's basketball sucks!

I can't beleive UConn thinks they are on a higer level than us. Do they even remember that ass whooping they took last time they were in Tampa? They have never beat us, and probably won't for a few years.

They have gotten better and can probably hold their own against Rutgers and teams from the MAC. But our talent level has grown light years beyond theirs.

Personally I am looking forward to spending that Thanksgiving weekend in Hartford and watching the Bulls get their 6th or 7th win of the year and land their first bowl.

What?  Uconn went to a Big East bowl last year and won!  We haven't even gone to a bowl in freaking CUSA.   Not saying I don't think we'll beat them  this year but they have accomplished more than we have, although we've had less time as an existing program.

They got lucky to be in BE when their QB and others were in their senior year otherwise as an indy they would have suffered same fate as us. The fact is that USF would have made a bowl in Blackwell's sr year had we been in BE or CUSA.

They are not going to be as successful as they were last year, just like we werent after Blakwell.

They didn't go to a Big East bowl last year, they went to the Motor City bowl and beat the MAC powerhouse Toledo...

They only received the invite because the Big Ten did not have enough bowl eligible teams.  The Big East does not have a tie-in with the Motor City Bowl.

Actually, that's incorrect.  The Big East does indeed have a tie-in with the Motor City Bowl for years when the Big 10 doesn't have enough teams (just like this past year).  In the future, the Toronto Bowl will likely be tied to the Big East with a Big 10 back-up so that the two bowls can swap teams if necessary.

Actually, you are incorrect.  The Big East does not have a tie in with the Motor City Bowl.

From the Motor City Bowl website:

The Motor City Bowl still has a continuing affiliation with the Big Ten Conference. Due to the limited number of bowl-eligible teams in 2004, the Motor City Bowl has invited an at-large participant. As a result, a Big East Conference representative will face the MAC Champion for the second time in our bowl history. On December 26, 2002 Toledo faced Boston College.

Here is the announcement of the Big Ten partnership with the Motor City Bowl (from 2002):

Motor City Bowl and Big Ten Conference Enter into Partnership

Park Ridge, IL (May 14, 2002) - The Motor City Bowl and the Big Ten Conference today announced the start of a four-year partnership. The agreement will place a seventh bowl-eligible team from the Big Ten into the Motor City Bowl against the No. 1 or No. 2 team from the Mid-American Conference (MAC). The agreement begins with the upcoming 2002 season and runs through 2005.

The 2002 Motor City Bowl will be televised by ESPN on December 26 at 5 p.m. EST. The bowl game is expected to be played in Ford Field, the new home of the Detroit Lions, which is scheduled to open later this summer. The Detroit area is located in close proximity to most Big Ten schools, making the drive a one-day trip for the Conference fans.

"This is the absolute best thing that could happen to the Motor City Bowl, the Mid-American Conference, the city of Detroit and the great state of Michigan," said Ken Hoffman, Executive Director of the Bowl. "And the ones who created the environment to allow this to happen are Ford, DaimlerChrysler and General Motors. They are the heroes. They are the ones who said 'let's do what's best for Detroit and the state of Michigan'."

"The Big Ten Conference is extremely pleased to announce our partnership with the Mid-American Conference and the Motor City Bowl," said Big Ten Commissioner James E. Delany. "With the outstanding support of alumni and fans in the Detroit area, this game is a natural fit for a Big Ten team. The Big Ten's relationship with the MAC has produced many exciting regular season games over the years. Now, our teams will have the opportunity to replicate that excitement in the post-season atmosphere at an outstanding venue like Ford Field."

Seven bowl tie-ins are a record-high for the Big Ten Conference, which has had seven bowl-eligible teams on four occasions: 1993, 1996, 1997 and 1999. Along with the Motor City Bowl partnership, Big Ten teams will have the opportunity this year to play in the Rose Bowl/Bowl Championship Series (BCS), Citrus Bowl, Outback Bowl, Alamo Bowl, Sun Bowl and the Music City Bowl.

"We couldn't be more excited about having the Big Ten contractually involved with the Motor City Bowl," said MAC Commissioner Rick Chryst. "There are very few conferences in the country with a national presence and the Big Ten is definitely one of them. The Big Ten, geographically, makes sense for a bowl game in Detroit and this agreement continues to enhance the image of the Motor City Bowl as a growing post-season experience for our student-athletes.

"There are very few post-season opportunities for a MAC team to play a BCS opponent and we are extremely excited about this opportunity. This relationship is such a natural pairing for both the MAC and the Motor City Bowl since we have a strong regular-season scheduling partnership with the Big Ten," Chryst said.

This year there are 10 regular season games featuring a MAC team versus a Big Ten opponent. Over the last five years (between 1997 and 2001), there were 40 regular-season meetings between MAC and Big Ten teams.

Now, the Toronto Bowl committee wants to have the Big East as a tie-in, which makes sense geographically... and the Motor City bowl has invited a Big East team twice because it makes sense for travel - BC and U Conn fans could easily drive from New England to Detroit - not because of any official tie-in.

From the Motor City Bowl website:

Wow, I stand corrected.  In previous years the Big East has been listed as being the "back-up" for the Motor City Bowl in an official capacity, but I can't find anything that states that now.

Regardless they went to a bowl and we haven't.  Call it timing, call it luck but that's the bottom line and until we go to one thhey have it over us.  We could have capitalized in 2003 our first year in CUSA and WE didn't win the games we needed to.

Correction, we didn't schedule the teams we needed to.  If one of the two D1AA schools had enuff schollies, USF is in a CUSA bowl.
