Yet another high-profile athlete who lists USF along with his "real" list of schools. How many times will it take, Bulls fans, before we finally realize that kids like this are not really coming here? When push comes to shove, the kid will always pick the schools like OSU and UF. It's just not in the cards for USF, at least not for several years.

Would you prefer that major prospects NOT list USF?

USF was the first school out of his mouth at the press conference. Of course, that doesn't mean we will land him, but for you to say we are not one of his "real" schools is flat out wrong.

No kidding.  These are the same people that have a fit because we took a transfer from Valpo, or because we signed a kid that only mentioned schools like Farfield, and Canisus.   Get a grip, it's all relative yeah we lose Brumbaugh but we beat out WVU, Pitt, and VPI for Cann, or we beat out some good comp for Stores (eventhough he's not coming right now).  It's relative dammit, and every so often these guys like Brumbaugh fall our way.

You don't want the coaches to stop recruiting these guys do you MARKY?  The rewards are much greater than the risk of losing them, and any decent coach insures they have fall-back measures if they lose a prize like Keith.  We can cite countless times when the McDonald's All-Americans shun the big boys for a lesser name- Larry Hughes to SLU, that one guy that went to Charlotte for a year, Wade to Marquette, R.I getting Lamar Odom....those guys had  huge impacts on those smaller teams even if it was only for a year.  It's worth kicking the tires, and hoping for a miracle.

Let's just cut back a little on all the breathess announcements about how so-and-so list USF among their "finalists" and come back to reality. How about reporting FACTS and RESULTS for a change instead of worthless speculation that is completely irrelevant to USF 99.9% of the time?

Potential recruits are not relevant until they sign on the dotted line, my friend.

So then Why in the F**K are you bit**ing about the fact he lists us.  All Howie asked was if you'd prefer he didn't list us?  Would you prefer we weren't even considered?

You do know the first step to a big time program is landing a few big name players.  AND to land a big name player they need to be considering you first!   No one's putting any cart before the horse, Keith Brumbaugh mentioned on his own fruition USF as a viable option.  If you choose to get upset by it then so be it, but many of us prefer to see it as opportunity, and evidence the staff is really trying to step-up this program.

MM...

I understand being frustrated at the appearance of always being the bridesmaid but never the bride...

Still, when USF is mentioned as under consideration -- by a high school start in any sport -- it improves the image of USF for that sport.  Other high school stars don't read message boards, but they do read newspapers... so they know that USF is getting more and more consideration from the top players... and the best players want to play with the best...

To be sure, our men's basketball team won't be Duke, UNC, U Conn overnight... consider that it's an upward spiral... each new star recruit adding and increasing the talent level of the team over the years... (which is how you develop into a perennial contender)...

Moreover, and someone correct me if I am wrong, the coaches can tell other recruits... "so-and-so" has listed USF among the schools he/she is considering... (or at least share the newspaper stories with potential recruits)...

"Keeping up with the Joneses" is a marketing and sales tool that works on our psyches... it works on recruits as well...

Finally, I will add this axiom from politics: unless you are caught with a live boy or dead girl, there is no such thing as bad publicity...

Well then, if you insist on blathering, hyperventilating and otherwise foaming at the mouth about the whims of some 18 year-old kid, can you at least take the conversation to the "Prospects & Potential Recruits Board" where it belongs? That board is there for a reason, and that reason is to provide a space for all threads pertaining to potential recruits including Keith Blumbaugh and Brent Shaffer.

At least that seems like a reasonable request.

Still, the moderators have allowed these discussions here, and it would be up to them to move the existing threads.

Of course, and this is not meant in a harsh tone, you could always avoid reading these threads.  Personally, there are quite a few threads on this board that I skip over... just a thought. :-)

Fair enough, why not just say that from the beginning.
