Cousins Named to Conference Honor Roll

Senior averaged 13.0 points and 11.0 rebounds last week

 

TAMPA, JAN. 11, 2016  Senior center Jaleel Cousins was named to the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll on Monday after averaging a double-double in USF’s two games last week.

The Mobile, Ala., native averaged 13.0 points, on 10-of-15 (66.7 percent) shooting from the field, and 11.0 rebounds. He scored a career-high 19 points and had 13 rebounds against the big UCF frontcourt in a 75-64 loss to the Knights in Orlando on Wednesday. Cousins had seven points and nine rebounds in Sunday’s 54-51 loss to Cincinnati, which entered the game ranked No. 13 in the nation in defense.

It was the second conference recognition for Cousins, who was also named to the honor roll on Nov. 30. Through 17 games, Cousins is averaging 8.8 points and 8.5 rebounds and has recorded six double-doubles. A testament to his improved conditioning, he has averaged 25.7 minutes per game. Through 17 games last season, Cousins averaged 2.4 points and 1.9 rebounds in 10.2 minutes per game.

Cousins was joined on the honor roll by Justin McBride (UCF), Sterling Gibbs (UConn), Shaq Goodwin (Memphis) and Ben Moore (SMU). Temple’s Quenton DeCosey was named player of the week and Dedric Lawson of Memphis was named rookie of the week.

Cousins and the Bulls (3-14, 0-4) will next be in action on Tuesday when they host Tulane (7-10, 0-4) at 7 p.m. in the Sun Dome. The game will be shown on ESPNEWS. Tickets can be
