It is stupid talk unless he can back it up.  Don't say a bunch of crap unless you're going to back it up.  Just say you're going to be a tireless worker and do the best you can to turn it around.  Don't blow a bunch of sunshine up people's butts over and over again and be a total bust over and over again.  The boy who cried wolf comes to mind.
