  1. West Alabama was Gulf South Conference champion last year over eventual national champ Valdosta State. Solid program, overall.
  2. Yep this is the issue now. Shoot, for me it's nearly getting to that point. In my time at USF I missed one home football game in 4 years (and that one was out of my power), traveled to see them play a couple times out of state, and of course supported the other teams on campus. Well, I graduated from USF this past may and am at Florida State for grad school now. I went to the FSU game, saw them beat Nevada 62-7, walked home and flipped on the USF game. I then spent the next 3+ hours watching the further demise of this program, texting my dad and some USF friends venting about things. For some reason I watched the entire game (waiting for our players to realize it's FAU and come back) but I can honestly tell you I'm not sure how much longer I'm going to be able to do that. I don't know how you guys are doing it in person, and I'm the type that rarely left before maybe a couple minutes left in the 4th. Anyways, I've sat through the last few years of blown leads, traveled to Philly to watch us lose to TEMPLE, and yet now I'm just not sure I'll be going out of my way to watch these games. Will I still watch? Yeah. But if I'm out doing something better, no way in hell am I dropping what I'm doing to watch this team. I'd rather follow online then come back here for the rants lol. I'm not abandoning this program but I'm also not going to put something that frustrates me so much up on a pedastal anymore, it's just not good for ones sanity.
  3. Hard to believe, but some of us are b-ball fans over football. I probably should have been born in North Carolina or Indiana. Or just not have chosen USF lol.
  4. My dad and I have referred to Ray Jay as the house of pain for the last few years. A good nickname for a home field....if the home team was the one winning.
  5. My dad got his bachelors and MBA from Florida Tech and my parents still live over that way. He's absolutely thrilled to have a team of his own, no matter what level, as he had kind of adopted USF. He was a USF season ticket holder every year I was at USF, but now that I'll be leaving the area he dropped his USF seats. He has already picked up his season tickets for the Panthers, $50 a piece, and will only be driving 20 minutes instead of 2+ hours. My sister went to Stetson so our family is filled with start up programs.
  6. UCF beat up on the weaker CUSA, while we struggled against the stronger BE. Depends how quickly the players pick up the new system at USF, but I still believe we have the better football players. UCF doesn't recruit well. Look at each teams games against Ball State. Pretty telling in regards to the quality of both teams last year. Means nothing next season though, obviously. Wouldn't be shocked if the Bulls drop the game in Oviedo, but let's hope not!
  7. It's on USA today courtesy of Dan Wolken. It's a big blue A with a red star in it. Very meh, IMO. There ya go..... http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/college/2013/05/29/american-athletic-conference-new-logo/2369991/
  8. If only the baseball NIT was real haha. This is USFs second "appearance" in 5 years. The Tampa regional would have been pretty darn good, too. http://sebaseball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1510052
  9. Seriously. Whose pocket is that Louisville money falling into to host after that quick exit in the Big East tournament? Since UofL is apparently so undeserving, who do you think was more deserving of the host nod?
  10. Louisville was in the National Seed discussion til the BE tourney. Worthy of a host spot, for sure. Plus the selection committee likes to spread host sites around.
  11. Agreed! The same is true for football. There's good athletes up north, just not that many great college programs up north. Their best players end up playing for schools down south and therefore the big name NE schools are left in the dust. Penn St baseball? Bad. UConn baseball? Getting there. Boston College? Atrocious. Syracuse doesn't even play it...meanwhile every single flagship university in the south and on the west coast is at worst an above average program, and mid majors in the state of Florida, Cal, NC, SC, etc are all on par (or better than) with the premier baseball programs in the states of Penn, Conn, NY, etc.
  12. I think he gets another year. His contract is up after next season and I think DW and co were encouraged by this season, so he gets another shot. If no regional next year, let him walk... simple as that.
  13. In general the AAC will be stronger. It wil not have a marquee team once Louisville leaves, but it will be very competitive. Here's a look at the programs joining the conference in the coming years: Memphis: They lack much baseball tradition, but FedEx built them a great new ballpark in 2009 and they have been improving in the past few years. East Carolina: A very strong baseball program, with a tremendous facility as well as fanbase. They had a bad year by their standards (RPI of 89) and still averaged roughly 2,500 people a game, good enough for 23rd in the nation. Houston: The Cougars have a solid program. They are usually competitive and have a pretty nice ballpark, although it needs updating. They too have solid fan support. UCF: We are all familiar with the Knights. Their stadium is in the process of being overhauled, and they have been attracting great crowds, averaging 1,457 fans a game this year, despite a bad season on the diamond. Coach Rooney has been recruiting very well, but the team lacked much pitching outside of Ben Lively (who will be drafted), and hitting outside of Taladay and Hempe who were Seniors. Tulane: The Green Wave have a proud baseball tradition, but has fallen on tough times post-katrina. They have a phenomenal new ball park and their fans show up in support despite the small size of their school. They averaged 2,080 fans per game, good enough for 27th in the nation. They were supposed to be very strong this year, but grossly underachieved. Temple: This is the black eye of AAC baseball. They will take Villanova's place as the Philadelphia baseball whipping boy for the conference, as the Owls have not been close to breaking .500 since 2008 when they went 27-29. This year their RPI was 251st, and that is in a horrible baseball league, folks. While Temple is located in North Philadelphia, the baseball team plays at the Ambler campus, roughly a 20 minute train ride form Center City Philadelphia. The facilities are atrocious, however. The first time I saw their baseball field in person I was quite astounded...it is literally no more than a baseball field. It makes the Old Red Mcewen field look like **** Howser Stadium (FSU). SMU and Tulsa do not field baseball teams. Here is another way to look at it. As has been said many times on these forums, the Bulls have not made the NCAA's since 2002. Let's see how AAC members compare in that same time frame. Memphis: 2007 ECU: 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011 Houston: 2003, 2006, 2008 UCF: 2004, 2011, 2012 Tulane: 2003, 2004, 2005 (CWS), 2006, 2008 Temple: None UConn: 2010, 2011 Cincinnati: None It wil be a competitive league, but there is NO reason that USF should not be towards the top of the league.
  14. On the verge of greatness, we choke and steal defeat from the jaws of victory. Perhaps it's overconfidence? Whatever the source, this is behaviour that needs to change. At this point, it's almost become engrained in our DNA as a program. Will it all go away if we finally build an OCS???? As long as its not on an Indian burial ground.
  15. Start school at Florida State in August. My head may explode during these games.
  16. Very good win! Looking good for that at-large.
  17. Bobby Eveld was a walk on. Matt Floyd's offers were mostly Sun Belt and CUSA schools. Matt Whites offers included schools such as Eastern Kentucky, Louisiana Tech and Western Illinois! And many are saying he'll be our starter for years to come. it's not like our current group chose USF over UGA, Alabama, etc. We don't have much to work with in general.
  18. Yes. Our schedule has been weak enough. Thankfully the final 11 games are vs top 100 teams. We could go 5-6 and the RPI would still go up at least 10 spots solely from SOS and adding to the current few quality wins on the schedule. It's crazy to say it, but an at large isn't out of the question. Notre Dame isn't amazing right now. They lost to Eastern Michigan tonight and have been kind of trending downwards anyways. FGCU is ice cold. BCU is beatable. Seton Hall hasn't played a quality baseball team in nearly a month. Rutgers is also cold right now. None of those sound that appealing huh? But they all have top 100 rankings next to their names. This team has the potential to win each series left, and split the midweek games. If they do that they could be a solid bubble team. And if they are still leading the BE, I like their odds
  19. The Stetson game being canceled helps the RPI. They've been really bad and their RPI is 190. USF doesn't need anymore of those on their schedule. It is good they rescheduled BCU, though. Their RPI is 77 so it gives another shot at a top 100 win against an in state team.
  20. Based on certain projections, if they go something like 8-4 or better in these last few weeks, they could boost their RPI into the 50s and potentially 40s, which could mean an at-large.
  21. It's not really our problem now. He made his decision. We should move on. True. Hopefully Eveld and the guys realize they just earned a second chance and it motivates them.
  22. I'm not convinced he's going to start at WVU.
