  1. A question--"official" as per whom? You can go ahead and abide by your rules, I'll continue to defy them. I can ALMOST grasp our rules as far as being at a game, you should absolutely support your team. That said, the night we played Louisville I rocked my USF hat to the basketball game of the school at which I work. I had to be at that game, and I had on that shirt, but I was wearing a USF hat too because I still and always will support my alma mater. Anywhere on a college campus? that's ridiculous. Following that logic, my office wouldn't be full of spirit items for both of my alma maters. And "at home do as you please"? What of those in live-in/on positions where "at home" is on a college campus? You wanna follow your rules? Knock yourself out. You do it your way, and I'll do it mine. LittleDrummerBoy, If you dont abide by the official rules I will sic BigDrummerBoy after you. Believe me, you dont want that OH NO!!! I'll play nice! Really!!  :'(  ;D Oh wait... I've got on a USF shirt today at work. Guess not. In fact, a student of mine just dropped by who's looking into USF for his grad program (the same one from which I graduated). I think continuing to wear the gear of your alma maters is a great recruiting tool. So until I meet a school who puts in my contract that I will not, under any circumstances, wear anyone else's gear (and frankly, I'd seriously question working there) I'ma keep doing what I do. 8-)
  2. Well put, Jim. Why do we sing the Star-Spangled Banner or recite the Pledge of Allegiance? why do we open meetings with the creed of our fraternity or sorority? It's to remind ourselves what these entities mean to us. These aren't haphazardly chosen words. Think about what you're saying as you sing them.
  3. well there you have it. In all seriousness though, I think the lyrics are written in the same antiquated spirit of alma maters several times its age. Huzzah! However, I don't think you need anything more than love for your University to at least stick around and muddle through the words.

  5. I've seen several of the highlights available on YouTube. Any knowledge of anything of the sort available for keeps? I realize in most cases it's copyright infringement, but I would love to see Athletics put something of the sort together available for download... it would be great if I had some BULLS video on my iPod to go along with my songs!
  6. I gotta call shullbit on that one. That's ri-got-dang-diculous. Perhaps said insistence is the reason why, as you say, people are "thinking USF is a secondary institution". Why would a first-rate institution care if I wear my alma mater's gear? I love USF, am grateful for my diploma, AND I believe are an excellent school academically. Same goes for UMBC. Further, if it weren't for my undergrad alma mater, I would never BE at USF. Why in blue hell would I jump ship and stop wearing it?! Quite frankly, I think THAT would show a lack of character. What/Who is UMBC, is that like the University of Phoenix? Do they have a football team? If not, I think we are talking apples to oranges. I really dont think most people would get offended if you wore your Community College shirt on the USF campus. If you didnt attend the university, dont wear the crap on USF campuses or at the games. First of all, do your homework before you go insulting my alma mater. The University of Maryland, Baltimore County. www.umbc.edu's a good place to start, though the Princeton Review'll give you some quality information too. Maybe you won't sound so uneducated next time. And no, we don't have a football team. But what if we did? I have other friends of mine--now fellow USF alums--who got their undergraduate degrees from FSU and UF. What, pray tell, is your reasoning for them abandoning their alma maters because they chose to pursue a graduate degree? I would think that someone who wishes to foster pride in their alma mater would be supportive of such things. And if you happen to be in the DC area over the holidays, I think the winningest program in collegiate chess is headed to the Final Four again. No, it's not a sport. But it's not bad for a "community college". http://sta.umbc.edu/orgs/chess/Pan-Am2006/
  7. My A$$... back when there was still some ambiguity about where we'd end up, I was a regular visitor to PJ.com Bowl's non-site, the Texas Bowl site, and the International Bowl site. It's their first bowl too, and their sites are pretty good; at least good enough to let us know what's going on. If it weren't for this board, I wouldn't know a thing about any other bowl-related activities. A bowl organizer should see this as a major problem. People can't go if they don't know.
  8. Our's is a fully catered breakfast brunch, and if like last year with bartenders, mixed drinks, and an excellent spread.  Their's sounds like some hill jack party complete with ham biscuits, hot dogs and sweet tea.  The only thing missing is the jug band. Maybe I've been living in NC too long, but that sounds pretty good to me. Maybe one to many Buc's tailgates.  Some of us can enjoy a good tailgate without having to chug brewskies.  With that being said I enjoy that too. However what i was saying was meant as a joke...ecu, pig farmers....hitting a cord their buddy? At least Joe figured it out. Oh I definitely get ya. But the rebuttal being, maybe $20 a head and "common folk" food is the way to go. I see the argument about who the tailgate is intended for, but it'd be great if there was something for the "little guy" too.

  11. I actually wish they would. There's no reason why, with the sponsor tie-in, there shouldn't be mention of the Bowl on all Papa John's commercials now, as well as bowl info on pizza boxes, etc. (haven't ordered from PJ's in a bit, so I don't know that they're not doing that, but I sure haven't seen the commercials). Specialty pizzas for each team? That would definitely put this bowl in the limelight. Everyone orders pizza.
  12. I noticed that too, but I believe it's a USF recognized TicketMaster portal and we do indeed get credit. I sincerely doubt they'd point us to anything different.
  13. well put. The program I graduated from had alums of UF, FSU, and any other number of schools in it. I still wore my alma mater's stuff at USF while STILL loving the Bulls. And I'll say now as I said then, I wish a mfka WOULD try and tell me why that's wrong.
  14. "Ask not what your University can do for you, but what you can do for your University." You're right, the tangible selling points are little if you just pay your $40 and reap benefits. It'd be nice if people though in terms of the fact that if their degree, and likely current earning potential came from USF, it may make sense to give back.
  15. The one thing that's missing from any All ___ Team is exactly that--team. We've got some standout players, some of whom were recognized, but another aspect of our play was the team aspect. We had a decent year this year, and decent representation. If we got 12-0 and not a single player is mentioned, I'm not losing a lick of sleep. On the flip side, we beat 3 teams with the same or better representation as us, and we didn't lose to any with fewer. I'll take my numbers in the W column any day.
  16. That is funny. I agree they deserve more money. But a great majority of people do not choose the college they go to based on professors. You choose to go a to school on what programs they have and which school is going to be an enjoyable experience. And I think USF and primarily Judy Genshaft is making great strides in bringing money to the school and also making the athletic programs first class. Judy has raised more money for our school than other president or professor has ever in our short history. Yes, but it's the professors (combined with other factors) that make your USF degree worth something.
  17. Is USF even involved with the sale of naming rights, or is that specifically handled by Sun Dome Inc.?
  18. I would still love to see something like this take place:
  19. Oh yeah, and some of the 'SU kids didn't know who they were playing--I heard Central Florida and South Central Florida before they got it right.
  20. I said this in another thread, but at times I felt like I was at a high school game in a high school stadium.
  21. Yeah that game was scary for a bit. I didn't get there till halftime due to a few setbacks, and we were down then. They had a foulout shortly into the second, but we still trailed for a bit there before regaining the lead and running away with it. Honestly, at times it felt like high school ball in a high school gymm. there was one string of turnovers that was ridiculous--straight out of the three stooges or something. We did get a few ridiculous blocks in, but I can't feel good with it being held that close for that long with a team that was DII last year.
